šŸ”· Dan Clark Audio Aeon 2 (MrSpeakers)

So essentially are the Aeon RT basically the DROP Clark?

Donā€™t really know since I have only tried the drop version and not the rt myself, but it would seem that way

I just bought a used pair of DCA Aeon 2 Closed to replace my Focal Elegia, which have wonky tuning and sound good only with types of music (strings, acoustic, piano, classical) that I donā€™t listen to very often. Couldnā€™t be happier so far.

The Aeon 2 Closed have MUCH better tuning than the Elegia for rock, alt-country, funk and the other types of music I enjoy. Not nearly as aggressive in the mids or treble, and Iā€™m willing to sacrifice some of the detail to avoid the wonky tuning and occasional stabs of an ice pick from harsh mids or treble.

Very power-hungry, though. Wouldnā€™t think of running these straight from a phone. They need an amp, preferrably of at least 1 watt at 32 ohm.

Still, very delighted with these running off a JDS Atom+ stack.

Maybe itā€™s because I came to the A2C Closed from the Focal Elegia, but every time I listen to the wonderful A2C, I think, ā€œWhereā€™s this excessive or hot treble that needs to be tuned with the included pads?ā€

Iā€™m glad the pads are available, but the stock tuning is working beautifully for me. Again, I think I got so accustomed to the Elegiaā€™s aggressive mids and treble and wonky tuning that the A2C is SO much less fatiguing. Not quite as detailed as the Elegia, but Iā€™ll take that trade seven days per week.

My only complaint so far about the Aeon 2 Closed are the pads.

I have the Noire fenestrated pads on mine. Yep, theyā€™re deep and plush, but I think theyā€™re almost too plush.

The foam isnā€™t quite dense enough, and the pads compress very easily. That provides great comfort if you donā€™t have big or odd-shaped ears. But the pinnae on my right ear sticks out more than my left, and itā€™s touching the driver grill a smidge due to the soft foam.

I think I can adjust the headband to fix it, as one of my ears is slightly higher on my head than the other. Rejiggering to adjust to that usually fixes some fit woes.

DCA should do two things with the pads on its next generation of Aeon (Aeon 3?): Make them slightly more dense and make them easily detachable. Now, theyā€™re glued on instead of held with magnets or plastic pegs. Not wise.

But sound-wise, these babies are the beesā€™ knees. Digging them.
