If anyone is interested, I am selling my modded HE6SE. With the cost of mods and time it took to install, plus the shipping it’ll cost me, I’m selling the set for $900. This is the same set I used in my Hifiman review.

Agreed! Too many folks are giving up after trying with them with normal amps. They need the juice.
Oh I have another HE6SE V2, but with no mods. I had two for my review, because I wanted to know if there was a significant difference between mods and no mods.
But now I don’t need two. I’m still keeping one.

There is a difference. The opening of the grill indeed gives a more open sounding signature.
Is it significant? To me, not necessarily a bigger deal, but enough to enjoy a bit more for me personally. Is it worth trying? Sure, you don’t even need a grill on, bought from eBay from a 3D printer person. Just taking off the existing mesh screen completely, having no grill, and you’ll have the same open sound as with any grill. And man, you could just rock these open, if you’re careful not to poke the inside. Even wide spaced grills are enough to avoid that and get virtually the same sound as completely open.
Worth modding. Or at least, worth trying without spending a dime.

I seriously had to do a double take when I heard the 6XX, 650, and 600 compared. The Drop website says the 6XX is based on the 650, but I found this comparison to be entirely off. Actually the 6XX sound a lot more like the 600!
