I was going to pull the trigger on this just for the accessories, I mean even if it is a sub par iem I felt I would be coming away with a good deal still :joy:

Now I can just wait for your impressions :ok_hand:

This will be a great month of impressions and reviews

HD8XX has arrived. Nobody gives me luxury feel like Sennheiser does with their new out of box HD800 series headphones.

Love it!

EDIT: Woah the photos got rotated by the forum! Weird.

Great job on the video! One of the very few times, I actually press the like button on anything. Really loved it and appreciate the effort you put into it!

That being said… on one hand I really like those kind of comparisions side by side demos. In some way they convey so much more than words alone can describe and are too rare on youtube. On the other hand I sometimes wonder how representative those really are and whether some iems sound worse just because of the fit/seal/mic.

For example: In most tracks, when you compare Aria and Mele, the Aria sounds terrible in comparison. Not even close. I am saying this as someone who likes brighter sounding head/earphones and I am listening to the demo through a pair of Aria. When you verbally compare them however, they sound much closer according to your description.
Another example: When you compare Aria vs MEST (especially one of your other videos), the Aria sounds like a 1$ earphone. It very well might be, that the MEST is leagues ahead (I never listened to it), but it still strikes me as odd, that the gap is so hughe, despite the MEST demo being limited by the presentation of my iems (which happen to be the Aria)

Yea the Aria has had a tough time sounding closer to real life impressions than the other gear has.

It could be the seal during recording, or fitting in some way…

One day I need to try another few takes and see if one is closer to real life than the other. Maybe I shouldn’t be including the Aria for now :pensive:

I don’t know if your issues recording the aria are related to it, but incidentially I think the Aria has a terrible fit :D… I really never had a problem with any other iem.

So maybe there is even some benefit if your recording setup accounts for that

@tkddans I am wondering what tips you use when recording. Have you experimented with foam tips? If you get to test it, I would be interested, if they improve the recorded performance of the aria. I would speculate that even across iems, they would give a more consistently, representative recording, but what do I know… :man_shrugging:

I don’t know how people handle their foam tips, so this may be obvious, but: after squashing the foam tips, they need 30 seconds or so to expand and create a secure fit… so during that time, they should be supported/held - if you let go of them directly after insertion, the fit won’t be as good

As a matter of fact, I use foam tips for every IEM recording!

The reason is simple: silicone won’t form a seal in the dummy head’s ear canal. So, I use foam tips as they have been my only successful way to get a full picture of each piece of gear.

@tkddans may I recommend you doing a review and demo comparison for another budget powerhouse? The Blon BL-05s (not BL-05).

I think this set with the right tips (I use Final E tips on these) sound incredible and the sound stage beats even Mele. There just not enough reviews and love for these out there because a whole lot of folks already have the og BL-05 and don’t want to spend another buck getting what they think is a “similar item.” HELL NO. The tuning for the BL-05s are superior than the 05 which people thought were mediocre.

This is a set that I’d recommend people get along with Mele for different sound signatures. If the Mele is tight and fast, 05s is wide and clean. Stock cable and tips are still shit though.

100% when accessing sets keeping everything constant is imperative… source, tip, and db matching…I’m way to lazy too do that shiz, that’s why I appreciate you guys :beers:

Can you look into DQ6 and ZEX too? Those have been highly regarded as budget kingpins by our community, and I would love to hear your thoughts (comparison between those two is also welcomed :+1: )

I just bought the ZEX! Should come soon. Seeing how the DQ6 is also very affordable… I just ordered it as well
