The HPA-1 will drop in price to about 2200 over the next week or so
There were two last week for that price.
Oof, well I still wouldn’t have enough, which is dandy. I’d have 1700 in March or April if the refund goes well, meaning I’m 500 short either way, and won’t get the other 900 until like, July or August, so fucc.
Ehh who knows, I might get lucky, I mean, can’t get worse from here. (Gulp)
If the amp I’m making, and have been planning out for the past 4-6 months some how decides to fail, even though the circuit, in essence, is really fool-proof, and I mean, there is no way this circuit can fail and destroy something without ALOT of things going wrong at the same time, which I mean, is more unlikely than winning the lotto then Idk, but if it does fail spontaneously, I’ll just lay in bed, very very still, and hope nothing else blows up.
Never saw that one before. what does it sound like? is it analytical?
It’s a fairly neutral amp that is ok on single ended but pretty great on balanced. It actually isn’t as detailed compared to some competitors (still very detailed though) but does a great job recreating space and other properties like that. The volume control uses a different design and is a bit touchy but it has no issues with it
You STF-up, damned pimp… I just ordered a RED one dammit and I’m not sending it back or selling the damned thing till i’ve had my fill It’s red FFS…RED! If it blows up i’m mailing it to your secret location in the North there Audio Pimp Santa
Ah another mk2 owner?
No dammit, the stupid SPL Phonitor X, that blows up…
Pretty great amp if you don’t have any issues lol. I didn’t even know they had issues like that until now, I have just heard nothing but good things from Phonitor owners (I can see why they sound great)
Oh they sound great, if your amp works, it is absolutely great, idk honestly, maybe I just got really bad luck, did you ever have issues with Shorting the amp?
Ok, so I’ve taken the time to re-read the pertinent parts of this thread to figure out somewhat what the hell is happening w/this amp. I also downloaded the manual to a Phonitor amp to verify the warning of muted etc. verified on pg 21 of X model amp. I’m assuming this has something to do with their high voltage “Voltair” technology. They over-emphasize the warnings on using an 3.5mm to 1/4” adaptor too.
Hmm… will absolutely follow all warnings after reading what you have gone thru. That’s a damned expensive ouchie.
Yeah it’s really really sensitive to shorting I guess, since I was using IEMS, then maybe the adapter caused it too, but it’s weird because I made sure to mute it and turn the pot down, idk, honestly, I recommend using the Balanced Output, safer, less likely to short since the pins go in at the same time, every time.
Idk, I mean it sounded so good, and a great contrast for a tube, faster but natural, instead of slower but smoother/warmer.
IDK, more i think about it, the more i realize it’s like taking a spin at the roulette tables or slots at Vegas Every time you plug a headphone in you wonder if that will be the time you hit the “jackpot” and blow the bitch up! Adds a little bit of zing and excitement to an otherwise mundane task
Except in this case there are only $250, $500, $1000, and $2,000+ tables & slot machines.
No 25 cent slots in the Hi-Fi Casino!!!
Ahh well see there we go, read the manual, apparently you have to use screw ons, or else the amp gets nuked, well then, guess that means most IEMS can’t be used on the amp. I mean, idk, never seen an IEM come with a screw on adapter.
I suggest you use that circuit Meze posted lol.
Dont they sell those things premade?
Yeah that should help in most cases hopefully. It’ll protect your cans, not your amp, so either way, the amp fries.
amp le fire
Well it doesn’t burn, but more like one of the transistors on the board essentially opens due to the stress of causing a short, since it doesn’t actually go to ground, Ground on the Headphone Out goes somewhere else, instead of directly to Chassis ground, at least from what I was able to test.
Also this, this is vile:
Oof pic doesn’t come up in chat
welp, guess we get to play another round of “Dirty Amp or Gross Porn”
America’s Favorite Pastime.
Wait nvm I just have an old laptop, didn’t load fast on mine, damn, nvm, welp that concludes this weeks round of “Amp or Porn”!
I trust the OEM Senn adapters the most, personally. They seem to be the most well made with lowest tolerances. Never had an issue with the one I use, but other adapters have been finicky including a screw on I have. .
