Dom Q’s spot - IEMs and Photography

Manual focus is better for macro anyway and really easy to learn.
Best is to set the focus to the desired magnification and then instead of turning the focuswheel you just move the camera front or back until your subject is in focus.
@Rikudou_Goku make sure to activate focus peaking, the camera will then highlight (in a colour of your choice) what is in focus at the moment.

thats what I did with the stock lens im using atm. is that not how you do it with auto focus lenses?
(while holding the shutter button half pressed down.)

Yep I have, same for my phone which has the same settings.

Tried taking some more macro but yeah this doesnt work well with the stock lens and I say it works better on my phone. (these 3 are on the 6100.)

However, for basically everything except macro, it kinda shits on the phone badly imo.
Xperia 5V

6100

Room with zero lights on and no sunlight, with the flash activated on the phone/camera.
Maybe this is more of a difference between the flash though as the camera flash is MUUUUUUCH brighter than the shitty even for a phone flash on the 5V.

Man all this camera talk @domq422 and @Rikudou_Goku . You made me go up to the attic and pull out the old warhorse, my Sony A100. The first of the A series I believe, right after they took over KM, keeping their trusty old A mount (AF).

10 MP, CCD sensor, active image stabilization.

Not my warhorse, I found it in the ewaste at my apartment building in 2014  Removed the cracked filter from the Sigma lens and bought a charger for the battery… works perfectly. I’ve barely used it but will give it a try for future IEM shots

I saw a few of those AXX series sold used here for around 200-300 usd.

Seems to hold up well for a camera that will be 20 years old next year! Nice that there are so many KM/Sony/3rd-party lenses out there that can fit it :fire:

ok maybe it was a bit cheaper than that lol.

(about 112 usd)

When you are in Manual focus mode then yes.
But if you are in autofocus mode don´t move the camera front and back. The autofocus motor is doing that action for you!
Maybe that explains why the second and third pic is out of focus because of the additional movement

One of the 7artisans team left to make TTArtisans. They are separate companies but they use a lot of the same components (ie DJ Optical) and they both provide design/manufacture services for other companies in the optical space.

I have that TTartisans lens - for the money excellent and can throw it around without much care. I believe they released a new macro lens at the back end of last year (more expensive tho) but can’t remember the details.

EDIT - May be worth waiting for the Ali Bday sale next month as looks like I paid quite a bit less than what it is listed for at the moment.

CCD sensors are so underrated. They produce some wonderful colors. They have more of an analog “feel” compared to CMOS.

That sure sounds familiar. :joy:
Is this another Knowles/Bellsing thing? (except both are chinese?)

Think its cheaper to just order from their site, since VAT is built in on Ali.

(this pic was not taken with flash but a separate light pointing at him.)

Jesus, what a crap photo

The Mystic 8 is in the house courtesy of my buddy Darren (ThaSlaya on Head-Fi) and @Jaytiss thank you, boys.

Holy Neutral, Batman… I’m going to let them settle in but I can already note a few things that aren’t necessarily my jam. With that being said, female vocals are very sweet.

ALL-BA + Linear midbass = GG

Linear midbass only works with DD drivers, imo.

Yep. That’s BS. But for Chinese folk music, I guess it’s ok, imho.

Indeed. (not only cuz iec711 couplers graphs with LESS bass than linear with BAs compared to on BK.)

I’m jealous! That lens is going to be a banger. 65mm equivalent on that 6100 is going to be a nice little lens to get adjusted to for macro shots for some IEMs.

Looking forward to seeing those pics with the patented light box :call_me_hand:

So… CanJam 2025 in the books.

It came and went so quickly, my head is still spinning. I can’t believe it. It’s been a hell of a long day… funny story; I had booked a bus ticket with a boarding of 2:15 am and an arrival in NY around 7 am. My plan was to get my breakfast, grab a coffee, maybe take a short walk around Central Park early in the morning before the city explodes with people. Ya know, actually enjoy my short time in the city.

Well…

I had the genius idea of taking a ‘nap’ around 10 pm the previous night. I’m thinking, “let me get some rest now, even if it’s only a few hours, so I’m not awake for literally 36 hours straight”. I didn’t know if I could sleep on the bus or not, this was my first time riding the bus to NY. Usually I drive, but last time I went the bill for just getting there was a little over $200 total… not including food or the ticket to CanJam. No, I’m good, never again

Anyways, I overslept and my wife woke me up around 2 am and in a scramble I realized I wasn’t going to make my 2:15 am boarding. No chance. So, instead of being depressed about it, I just looking for the next boarding time which was 5:45 am. I didn’t get to NYC until around 10::45 ish and by the time I got off the bus, navigated the maze that is the Port Authority Bus Terminal, got my breakfast and coffee, I didn’t get to CanJam until about noon.

Let the listening begin…

I’ll be posting my full written impressions with photos this week but the winner from this year is most definitely the Thieaudio Valhalla. Those IEMs are actually brain meltingly incredible. I really do wish they weren’t $2000 but god dammit, I think I’d actually pay the price tag for them.

My biggest disappointment is most definitely the iBasso DC Elite… I just don’t get it with that dongle. It’s $450 and it honestly did not wow me at all. What did wow me is the DCE’s little brother, the DC07. So much so that I bought one right there and then. It sounds phenomenal and honestly, it is now my best portable source in terms of SQ.

Anyways, here’s a few pics off my phone for now, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Now, I’m back on the bus on my way back to Bean Town… won’t be rolling in till 1 am

Cheers :beers:

Thanks for sharing some first impressions

Can you draw some compassions regarding valhalla with some other IEMs?
I am aware that it can not be very accurate comparing from memory, just curious about that personal unscientific wow factor

I’m absolutely with you when it comes to DC Elite, this thing is overhyped big time
