Dom Q’s spot - IEMs and Photography

Damn, I am completely blown away by the Flipears Legion.

It’s more of a listening experience than anything else I’ve heard under $1000. So much texture. So much theater in the presentation.

I love them. Cannot recommend them enough.

Glad they jive with you! Total miss for me, that resonance of the coil BC just destroys vocals for me. Was a boxy mess. That’s part of the fun though, one’s trash is another’s treasure :treasure_chest:

I think that they have their place, just not in any kind reference/monitor-style of tuning.

Totally get it, makes perfect sense to me, y’all. I’m not getting any unpleasant resonance from the BC driver, but I could see why it would just be too much for others. I hadn’t even thought about it being a bit too much… always appreciate a different perspective!

Haha:rofl::rofl:. That meme made total sense to me. Bursting into laughter by myself is slightly embarrassing:sweat_smile:. No one saw me I think:eyes:

Yeah it is all about implementation and music played. I have the Kinera Verdandi TWS on loan, and the coil type BC in it sings along on the female voice prompts, which is a bit peculiar to hear:sweat_smile:

I admit that it might take some getting used to, more so for others. But if you’re anything like me, it’ll wow you and make you want to keep listening :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Speaking of wanting to continue a listening sesh:

Was not too sure about the FF Quantum’s abilities and the price hike from other Planars in the market but I think I get it. Take away the stupid cable collab with EA, make them about $500 and honestly, I can justify the price increase. These are very nice. Like, very very nice. More impressions to follow for sure!

Sure looks like ‘em! The Yincrow, red cable and 45-degree plug are shoe-ins.

Correctamundo, brother!

Right afterwards I busted out the @Rikudou_Goku Lancer OGs and they literally blew my mind.

I haven’t listened to them in well over a year. Maybe closer to 2. The tuning is damn near bang on to my preferences and the texture of the mids is incredible. Comparing them to a newer set that I have, the Dunu 142, is genuinely no contest in favor of the Riku buds, besides the sub bass.

No fancy lighting just a quick snap to show off a custom power cable - AO Ra in there for good measure

After having them in-house for what feels like an eternity, I’ve only had a very limited amount of time to work with the FatFreq Quantum, so I’d better write something up before it’s too late. I exclusively used the soundstage module for 99% of my testing as I found it gave the best mix of dynamics, bass, and stage dimensionality.

TLDR: I really enjoy these a great deal. If I had to describe the sound, it’d be squarely an aggresive V-shape type sound with big dynamic swings in the bass and treble, with the low end getting deeeeep… deeper than any other planar IEM I’ve heard to date. The fit is very strange and doesn’t work for my ears after about 30-45 minutes, which is the worst part about this IEM besides the forced collab driving the price up.

Sub bass has all the rumble and speed I look for and then some. I would love FF to make a follow-up to the Quantum with a better fit, non-collab. cables and more bass to really push this driver to where I think it could excel. Mid bass snaps with authority, and because of the planar’s speed, it never gets muddy or overly warm to my ears. The layering of different bass instruments is actually both impressive and fascinating to me. This has layering similar to some higher-end hybrids, which is wild to me. To think one drive is making all these noises in my head… Weird.

The mids are strong in character - they’re forward and damn near aggresive in presentation. During songs with a lack of bass presence, it’s a little too much for me, actually. Especially female vocals. There is some glare around 2-5k, but it’s very track-dependent. I’ll accept this trade-off if I’m honest - I’d much rather have an emotional mid-range presentation, especially when it comes to female vocals. The alternative is a new meta-tuned muddy mess with overly warm female vocals that have too much husk and weird timbre from micro planars. No thanks - This is a unique presentation where the bass digs deep and supports the rest of the mix & the vocals sit right in front of the listener. In terms of staging, the overall effect is extremely well done and helps the entire sound come together.

The treble is the least realized part of the sound for me - It doesn’t stand out to me in any way that’s bad. It’s perfectly fine. Timbre seems good. Nothing seems harsh. Details are sensational. Imaging and, as I said before, staging are both true standouts here.

That’s all I got for now, I’m exhausted after a long day - I am really enjoying these. I just wish they fit better and were a bit less expensive. Check those two boxes off, and I’d recommend these to just about everyone.

Heres something super random.

Questyle announced two “new” versions of their M15i dongle over on Head-Fi about 2 weeks ago and on the bottom of the article it said to reach out to request a review unit.

… It couldn’t be that easy, right?

Wild.

Supposedly, these have two different tunings, as in, built in DSP possibly? Idk the marketing isn’t clear to me if I’m totally honest.

I am going to be honest with my reviews + pics of course so if this is some snake oil BS, it’ll be the first and last review unit I get from Questyle lol

Nice, really cool it was that easy to get them!

I Just bought OG M15i a while ago and it is such a banger, especially for C12.

They Sold off the old ones fairly cheap to make room for the new shinies.

I don’t expect better performance just different flavours, nothing that you couldn’t achieve with MSEB or a standard EQ.

The purple one looks super cool! :purple_heart:
