Nah the diffuser is to “break”/diffuse the harsh light of the flash and make it softer and more even. You’ll avoid any highlights and the lighting will look much more natural
It’s a must have for macro photography with a flash imho
What you mean Dom are these bouncers that look similar which you usually hold in hand or someone else holds them to make use of the Natural light and redirect it
Technicaly you could use the diffuser above as a bouncer aswell
The way you describe the EX800ST’s bass as a “giant box fan” versus the Singularity’s “high RPM bursts” is a good analogy. Helps paint a picture of how the two differ in attack and impact.
It makes sense that the Singularity’s DD might be tuned for faster response and efficiency, especially if the shell acoustics are helping control the resonance. A lot of older basshead sets had that overwhelming sub-bass presence but lacked the control and speed that newer tech brings. The EX800ST was definitely a legend in its time, but as you said, bass expectations have evolved quite a lot thanks to new tech and brands expanding the realms of possibilities.
I have never, ever used the pop-up flash on any of my cameras and the ones I have now don’t even have pop-up flashes so that was the last way of using that thing I would have guessed… but you make a good point.
The picture is a bit misleading as you can´t really see a flash being used…the small popup flash may hide behind it or may not
Works with the bigger flashes on the hotshoemount aswell
A diffuser is Always beneficial especially If you have reflective surfaces because you will see every single Led in the reflection…i saw that already in one of your pictures…can’t remember which one.
Can you change the temperature of your LED lights?
If not you can also change temperature in Cam…my flash shots are usually arround 5000 Kelvin.
You can always change white balance later aswell but it’s better If it’s already as true to natural light as possible.
No the flash is directly aimed at the subject with the setup i posted above.
Flashpower was a bit high therefore i had to reduce the Highlights in post quite a bit
my led panels should already have a diffuser adapter on though but yeah I can still see them sometimes.
But none of my pics have been taken with flash though.
Yes I can, 2 of them even give me the kelvin value.
hmm iirc natural should be 5600K?
hmm interesting, was the room entirely dark besides the flash then? Can this be done with my stock flash?
No I did not shoot in a darkroom hehe
If you are close to a subject with a flash and there is nothing behind the subject it will automatically black out the backround
In insect macro photography you usually don´t want that as you wanna show the insect in its surrounding so you try to have something in the background like grass, leaves and so on.
In the pictures above the IEMs were also placed on the black box which helped aswell to creat that effect
Don´t know if the internal flash will do.
Do you know any budget ones that works with my Sony A6100? Dont care about wireless trigger but at least I want to be able to have the flash away from the camera if needed and trigger when I take the pic.
Just tried to order some metal shell but Im not sure I use them since the finish is pretty rough and not as comfortable (besides the heavier weight which is detrimental in bud shells).
Current proto buds is for a Grand Caster 3 though.
