Earbuds Discussion Thread

Damn, those look amazing. Any interest in starting J-buds or some other more creative name? :sunglasses:

I know around these parts we’re all about Rikubuds and TGXear but does anyone have any experience with the Blur line of DIY buds? I see enough noise about them that they are a curiosity, but I don’t need to make more trouble for myself if they don’t actually stack up

Man, now you’ve exposed my retirement plan! :joy:

Seriously though, I really dig my 300ohm LCP buds and my 130ohm Bery version and figure next time I have a few months at home I’m gonna make a bunch to give to people and pass around the community. I’ll definitely have to work on that naming scheme though lol! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have a pair of Blur 266 MX150 aPs v2 Retune 150Ω buds (long name, I know ). They’re definitely capable of holding their own with the big boys.

LOL - aw Shoot, my bad!

I’d absolutely be interested in hearing what you’d come up with for sure. I’m not the best when it comes to naming things, unfortunately. I’ll just stick to photos :upside_down_face:

Hey, if you shoot my photos and I make the buds we might have something here. Now we just need to find someone who’s good with catchy naming and branding…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have the Blur 266 PK32 Higher Mountain Tuning (man loves the long names) & I agree with @JAnonymous5150 super capable buds but I personally have been more wowed by the TGXears offerings so far.

Have you considered VE? I would say the tunings are a little different.

I hadn’t considered them. What would you suggest in their offerings?

Mind you, I’ve extensively demoed Serratus, and bought Ripples, as well as Riku’s Grand Riders. So I’m hella spoiled

Sun Copper & Sun Dice are the TOTL buds if you like warm midcentric tunings (pricey though) - come in a bell shell - personally I had a fit problem - if you can get a good fit they compete with the TGXears I own (Serratus & Tantalus).

Zen line - very thick warm midcentric (I have a 2.0 but they just dropped a 3.0 - haven’t heard it yet so can’t comment)
Asura line - (I have 3.0) flat vocal based and detailed but in a completely different way to Serratus

These are both MX500 shells and probably where to try to get a decent impression of the brand.

They also usually bundle these with:
Megatron - definitely worth trying - super value & very unique DAC/AMP;
Abigail - super cheap & capable daily driver dongle; or
A set of impedence adapters - they are the only people that I am aware of producing a 4.4mm Impedence adapter - available by request)

I would say for me in comparison to what’s out there they are slightly overpriced - should be more in line with a Balanced Rikubuds Grand Edition / Yinman 600 / Yincrow RW2000. Personally a step down from TGXEars but with a couple of varied tunings to what’s around, a crazy owner & great customer service - so I will still support them.

They do some budget stuff also - let me know if you need some impressions for those.

P.S. not sure if this chart helps a little

Interesting fact - TGXear bell shell is based on Sun Copper, so if that doesn’t suit you, his won’t as well

To reinforce the point @Kenyon made, I couldn’t get a stable fit with the Sun Dice even when I used the ear hooks that VE sent out with them. When I did have them sitting just right, the Dice were a great example of a warm, midcentric bud that stayed very detailed and still kept decent presence on both ends of the spectrum too. It’s a shame I couldn’t get them to fit better because they had potential to be a bud that I would have kept in my active rotation. They do what they do very well.

Edit: They don’t come cheap though and the Sun Copper is even more expensive. I enjoyed the Asura 3.0 if you want to get a good look at some VE buds for a bit less.

I’ve just realized - why the fuck am I recommending buds I already am familiar with… :man_facepalming::man_facepalming::man_facepalming:

[be selfish]

SO…
If your taking one for the team / for review - would be interested in hearing your thoughts on:

Yincrow Calf
Faaeal Lillium
K’s DB1E

Not that much out there on these - well… from any reliable sources

For those of you that are new into buds and do not know how to put on the foams, here is a video guide I recorded:

@JAnonymous5150 did you end up getting the Faaeal Lillium before you went out on tour?

Yes, and I’m not a fan at all. Pretty wonky tuning with relatively undefined and limp bass. It seems to be trying to be a vocal specialist, but I find that lower male vocals lack body and female vocals are only meh most of the time. If I were you, I’d take a pass on the Lillium.

There you go @Kenyon.

I really shouldn’t do it right now, but I’m going to jump on Qua2k’s deal for two Blur sets on head-fi

He’s selling a limited edition 1 of 1 and a 173 PK32. I mean…it can’t be a bad deal, right? lol

The 173 pk32 should be pretty similar to the 266 pk32 I have. It’s pretty much just a cable change.

Happy to get them out tomorrow and give you some impressions if it helps… otherwise enjoy the Blur mids.

@JAnonymous5150 thanks a lot chap for the guidance - shame as they looked interesting at least visually.

Sure, lets do that lol

So the hiegi foams came in and for my ear they are a great match with the Serratus!

Happy to help! I liked the idea of a two pin bud and I like their looks, but was very disappointed.
