On a more serious note, I completely agree with previous posts. I ordered a pair of rikubuds especially for working situation because I need to hear when people want to talk to me and I have to do several egress/ingress.
I of course will do a feedback here as often as possible to share my thoughts on the set
Agreed - I can’t wear buds at work since I’m customer facing, and I barely have time at home to listen to music, so all my listening is done when I’m head home or when I’m going to work - buds just don’t work for me at the moment unfortunately.
I’ll be moving into a new space next month with room for a desk so I’m excited! More buds for sure in my future
I practice listening sessions in the bed. That’s the best time for me. This way I have good conditions, and I can listen to either buds, iems or even closed back headphones.
The downside is I fall asleep on them and wake up during the night to bring them out and place them in their box.
I never really understood the concept of listening conditions until I got earbuds and specifically the Serratus. The experience is wildly different depending on background noise.
I think I’ll probably end up using the IE600 for work and noisy environments and the serratus for late night and dedicated listening
Shit, you already know, my dude!! Easily accessible off the T as well, so it works for just about everything. I’m moving back to my roots of Eastie, I’m excited but also not looking forward to the parking
You know, I get all my listening done around 5am - 7am when my wife is off to work and my son is still asleep but unfortunately, he’s been having to sleep in the same room as us for the time being, just waiting on this apartment to be ready and it has taken a lot longer then we originally expected. He is such a light sleeper, that even sound leakage from an IEM makes him toss and turn so buds are completely out of the question.
Oh dude, 100%! Even with IEMs, being in a car or a bus or a train, the bass seems to almost disappear completely because of the background noise. This is exactly the reason why I almost always use a bass heavy IEM when I’m traveling and then when I’m home, I can pop in the Hexa or the Monarch’s to really enjoy the entire sound sig! The environment is yet another factor to how we perceive the sound.
Been listening to a lot of IEMs and over ears lately so last night into this morning (currently floating around northern and central europe BTW) I decided to break out the earbud stash that I brought with me and have a good listening sesh since I couldn’t sleep even after playing two shows. So I picked the Cypherus Audio Black Editions (with a custom retune by Herry), the Symphonio Dragon 3s, the Fiio FF3s, and my own DIY 300ohm LCPs in copper shells.
I was throwing all kinds of music at these buds from prog-metal to OSTs and Coltrane to Tupac and I have to say, earbuds f*ckin’ rock! Pick your flavor of TOTL which will only cost you a fraction of what it will for any other transducer type and you can have yourself an absolutely ridiculously sick experience. I was running all of these out of my Cayin N8ii or my Magni 3+/Modi MB 2 stack and loving every damn second of it.
There’s a reason I brought more pairs of buds with me than headphones or IEMs. All those people out there who haven’t listened to any earbuds but the stuff that came with their first smartphones and don’t think buds are a legit hifi, audiophile level transducer need to get with it because they are missing some of the finest listening available on head gear. You guys have seen my gear list and know that I own some amazing gear for headphones and IEMs and yet these buds will keep up with the cream of the crop of what I have and for certain moods and listening they’ll walk away winners. Real talk. No BS.
I wasn’t bragging. I was giving earbuds their due. If you can’t see that that was my intent, I can’t help you. I like to think that I have let people see enough of the modest and humble side of me to know that. Not to mention that the whole rest of the post serves as one big context clue. Oh well, can’t please everyone. Sorry you were offended.
Edit: I had to stop and check that I wasn’t on a head fi thread. Normally I only have to walk on egg shells there.
Can you share a pic of your DIY 300LCP? How are you liking those drivers (I love smooth highs, punchy mid bass and forward vocals - any check boxes)? Are those the ones btw? https://a.aliexpress.com/_mr49Mg2
I am keeping eye on them and they are in my cart for some time along with 300 Blue PET that Serratus uses or 80 Blue PET that GAS2 uses… It is quite tempting, but also knowing I can’t tune very well yet and I can train on 3$ drivers makes the expenditures for those higher end ones less pleasing
Oh dude, @SoundEater c’mon, man - @JAnonymous5150 is one of the most humble guys on this joint, even considering his collection. I don’t think he was trying to offend or show off, he’s just trying to justify his claim with what he’s heard or what he owns. I absolutely have no doubt in my mind he had the best intentions.
We’re all boys here. This ain’t Head-Fi! It could also be a language barrier thing for sure, I was humbled by @Erokh because I took his comments the wrong way, it was the language barrier at fault in that situation and I hope it’s the same here.
Yeah I’d like to think that it was a simple case of lost in translation. This forum is super friendly and special - I hope it stays that way. @JAnonymous5150 , good to hear from you bro!
Coming back to buds, I gotta say the Serratus is slowly taking over my top spot from the IE600. Hip hop is still the IE600 all day but for everything else the experience on the Serratus is just preem
Sure. They drivers are 300ohm LCP and the shells are copper with MMCX connectors that I ordered from NSC Audio after loving the fit when I tried their 80ohm LCP and 32ohm Titanium driver buds that are made with these shells. Cable is 8 core SPC.
Edit: Sorry for the less than stellar pic. I’m a terrible photographer at the best of times and this is the only pic I have handy and I’m not with them at the moment.
P.S. I was running on zero sleep for like the third day/night in a row so I think I overreacted to that a little bit. I have absolutely no hard feelings towards @SoundEater and looking back on it, I suppose I could see how my post could be taken for being on the arrogant side even though that wasn’t how I meant it. I probably should have just let it go and I’m sorry for making it a bigger issue than it needed to be.
Thank you guys for the support, but it’s all water under the bridge. I respect everyone here and I’m cool with just moving on.
Me too! These shells just fit my ears perfectly. If you’d like to try a really good and pretty cheap pair of buds and see how those shells work for you at the same time, I put a link below to the buds that first turned me on to those shells. Keep in mind, both versions are good, but the 80ohm LCP version is, IMO, on of the best buds I have tried under the cost of something like the Yincrow RW-1000 or Fiio FF3.
