Keen to hear your impressions!
How is the treble of the Saber 3 compared to Alter Rider 3?
I’ll try and grab some listening time later
From what I can tell AR 3 is more V shaped which in turn lends to a slightly brighter and airier treble for instance on 10CC’s How dare You all the funky drum and percussion bits a the beginning stand out more clearly on AR 3 as does the spoken “over here” and “how dare you” so detail wise AR 3 wins, but this doesn’t make up for the way the upper mids replay female vocals, well for me anyway (libraries vary ymmv) plus that sub bass focused low end and more forward treble means I listen at lower volumes. On the other hand S3 is more balanced throughout the whole frequency range, Sub bass is enough without getting bombastic likewise the mid bass I reckon it would be a smoother glide than the AR3?. The S3 is also really tuned well through the upper mids to presence region followed by a detailed but slightly rolled off treble ie non offensive, so yeah I can listen louder to this set.
Both entertaining sets in their own right but if pushed to choose it would be S3 for it’s balance
I just bought these off ebay for £13 they sound tremendous does anyone know what version model this is and what is the next thing up in quality (I only have the FiiO FF3 in my collection so not knowledgeable at all in the subject
They look like VE Monks to me. Not sure of the exact version though.
Looks like the Venture Electronics Monk Plus SPC version.
Gosh this one’s crazy…Gonna take my time as they’re like peas in a pod but non-identical peas… from the get go both these sets do my library justice…Thank you @Rikudou_Goku and Jim
Edit…for personal preference I’m using doughnut foams on S3 and full “medium” foams on Serratus.
Should I get earbuds or IEMs? I’m looking to upgrade from the Yume II. The one thing i’m trying to get away from is that “in your head” sound without going to over the ear headphones, how do earbuds do in that department?
Depending on the model, yeah, earbuds are absolutely the kind of wide and open sound that you’re probably looking for.
What would be some models I should look into? I like a clean sounding signature with decent bass and enough treble to sound sparkly but not sibilant
@Sonofholhorse
Paging @Rikudou_Goku for appropriate recs (he knows the market far better than I do). For Riku’s own buds, I’d say probably either Grand Alter Saber 2 or Alter Rider 3.
Riku’s Saber 3 would be a great choice imho…it’s got solid bass, great mids and a detailed but non fatiguing treble, plus you get to choose the shell colour/s and termination
Budget? And music genres? And can you handle MX500 shells?
Saber 3, going from iems to buds you will usually feel a lack of bass unless the bud is bass boosted which the Saber 3 is.
And it has the RG39 shell so you will have an extremely good comfort and fit.
If you are interested PM me.
Yep 100%
O.K…this got my interest. Gonna go check out your website. Qian 39 shells are by far the best-fitting earbuds for me, and a set that actually has bass too? Nice bonus.
You know what to do next then.
