Earbuds Discussion Thread

I’m currently using QianYun qian39, is it worth to buy these fiio ff1 as an upgrade?

For any of you who are interested, I got notice from tracking that the Ucotech ES-P2s are out for delivery today so I don’t have to wait until Tuesday to start listening to these bad boys. I’ll post some impressions once I’ve had some time with them.

Wanted to give a quick little comparison between the new Fiio FF1 and Yincrow X6. I only have three buds including the FF1. The other 2 being the Yincrow X6 and K’s LBBs. I figured the X6 would be closest in price.
I’m using the “crisp” foams on the FF1 and the stock foams on the X6.

Basic impressions between the two:
The FF1 is definitely warmer than the X6, which says a lot as the X6 is regarded as a warmer bud. There is still a decent amount of detail. It doesn’t seem to get overwhelmed with busier songs.

The FF1 has an average stage, much more “in the head” feel with it only really opening up when instruments are hard panned to either side. I feel like the stage is similar to most average iems.

The treble on the FF1 seems to be rolled off a bit. Snares feel a bit muffled to me. I agree with @heartless that the freq response just sounds “normal.” Nothing to egregious that stands out.

I’d say that these buds are just good. Nothing about them screams “horrible don’t buy” but it also goes the other way. I feel that they would be good for longer listening sessions without being fatiguing at all. For the price? I’m not sure. I got mine for $20. I don’t have any experience with the under $15 bud market.

Edit: playing around with the fit more and I found that I can get a pretty good increase in bass while still retaining the rest of the freq response. I also find them to be quite comfortable.

I know about pressure build up from my KZ Linglong. I don’t like it for sure, but may i ask how exactly is it a problem?

When I am listening no issues…but when I am taking it out I have to use bit force due to suction and I feel bit pain inside my ear for a very short time…not big enough issue but I worry about long term impact to my ears if any.

Tanchjim T-APB T300 ear tips have pressure relief channels, you may want to looking into those.

@ttorbic how are you finding the SBS? Any early impressions?

This is what Sword wrote on a Discord server:
"More to my preference. More mid-bass vs the sub-bass of the OG and treble is dialed back a smidgen but still very energetic. Mids are present with really good detail and everything sounds very full.

Much better techs all around vs the original minus width and the infinity ethereal notes that make the OG so special. Layering and separation are way above this asking price.

It’s a more fun Desolation Sound that opts for a fun tuning rather than being more analytical and technically focused? I really like it…a lot haha"

And my response:
"I still need to share my own impressions of the SBS, but for now, I’d mostly agree with your take! I find the SBS to be a smooth listen, but not lacking detail. It’s neutral-warm IMO, with a healthy amount of midbass. Tone and timbre are impeccable as one would expect from a TGXEAR lineup.

One thing I’d like to emphasise: people have asked me “oh how does it compare to OG”? The thing is, while it shares some DNA (diaphragm material), I think it doesn’t do SBS much justice to be constantly compared to the OG - they are pretty different sets. That’s why I’m struggling to decide which one to keep - I also thought the SBS would replace OG for me, but that hasn’t happened yet… But it needs to, for my wallet’s sake loll"

Thanks so much - really interesting. Suddenly feels hard to place this in the TGxears lineup.

Just picked up hopefully even with a busy week/weekend I’ll have a chance to give them some ear time :+1:

Riku man they look even better in the flesh thank you :beers:

Hey all. Looking for some VE Sun Copper vs. TGXear Sunniva or Desolation Sound comparison.

I suggest you post on headfi - this thread isn’t very active :frowning:

Yeah I went ahead with the purchase. Let’s hear what the fuss is all about. Almost everyone likes it!

Been some time huh…

I know this thread isn’t the most active, but I’d like to put a post here anyway! My previous wood shell release, where is it?

Its happening actually! Just later than sooner. That shell will be a collaberation between me and Nightjar, as this is meant to fill a void and also allow better customisation!

As for my personal buds, that will be using a resin printed shell, custom cable, custom speakers and unique packaging that will be contained in a very small body and so that it doesn’t take up any unwanted space.

As this is something under my complete control for tuning and design, I want to go for a bass orientated earbud that has great resolution. Won’t be basshead, but more or so a neutral iem with bass elevation. And once again, not meant to go after any price brackets as this is my personal love letter to buds!

how was the earbuds from LREY and kobe audio?

Some pic’s of Riku’s work…between these two sets for my library S3 is an easy win @Rikudou_Goku man that set punches well above it’s price point…well balanced not as +bass/punch as AR3 but S3 has a much cleaner mid bass > mids ie no bleed…mids ie female vocals are not as recessed but hold their own this time…treble is good but lacking a little air and sparkle…”when the Levee Breaks” Bonzo’s cymbals sound a bit muted but that’s nit picking at this price point.
Another plus soundstage if that’s your bag? is wide and Yosi fans will approve.

Ok so we have a wee power house set thats well balanced at a great price which gets Ohmboy’s :+1:

PS I used doughnut foams…
