Earbuds Discussion Thread

Hope it turns out great  I’m also getting a 32ohm Serratus in a near future to compare and to daily drive  I might not go Qian39 shell tho.

How are you liking your Serratus? Currently deciding between the Serratus or Rikubuds

Transducer of the year so far.

Oh wow, absolutely tempted now. Think it could be driven by a VE megatron?

Kind of looking for an upgrade to the LBBS and these sound just like what I’m after…

@tgx @Tfaduh

I don’t own Megatron, sorry! But volume wise, you should have no problem at all. I’d say yes.

Ahah, I wrote that:

Since the beginning of the year I had started a quest to find an ultimate version and upgrade to my forever beloved K’s Earphones LBBS (if you ever want to get into buds and you enjoy instrumental music or neutral tunings, start with these).

I have the Megatron and it’ll provide more than enough power for the Serratus. I don’t have enough experience with source A/Bing to tell you if it has synergy with the Serratus

Ordered the Megatron earlier today, might be enough bad financial decisions for one day

Due to some various unexpected circumstances I may end up with some high impedance balanced version of Serratus instead of 32Ohm single ended Qian39. I am afraid NW-A55 would be a bit on the weak side to drive them and I want to give them the justice while at home (at work DX3pro+ would be more than enough).
@ttorbic @nymz do you use DAPs to drive yours? I remember that you had Hiby R5 II - is it a good pairing?

I use Qudelix and Megatron (balanced) to drive my 300Ohm Serratus. Sounds good on both, although I haven’t done a serious comparison between different sources, and even if I do, I don’t think I’ll detect the changes during casual listening sessions, when I’m lost in the music and not critically analysing everything.

Yay, my Qudelix might do as well though I thought I would like to use my local files library, while in bed (this is why DAP with no must of streaming) and worst case also not BT - just for the sake of saving battery of my phone + potential gain in quality.
But that would probably be my first source before I upgrade DAP

Ok,
I found ZX300A that can be muled by my brother to Poland on head fi. That would solve the issue leaving me with belowed Sony UX (battery life, responsiveness, sensme) + just a bit worse usability due to the size increase, while having a balanced option with much more power  this is the way to go

I don’t have a single DAP anymore. Besides Hiby R5 Gen2, there’s now some other releases that are making some stirr, but I can see you already found a deal

PS: I’ll be testing a Fiio M11 soon

I have been reading so many reviews and forum post on these the past 2 hours and god DAYUM do I need to hear these for my self eventually.

It seems that @tgx has created something absolutely stunning. I’ve never exchanged a single word with you sir, but you’ve earned my upmost respect.

X-post from my thread:

Come one, come all! To the Flathead Sanctuary!

The Flathead Sanctuary is a community-driven neutral zone where all things earbud related can be openly and freely discussed sans censorship. No hidden agendas. No cults. No banned manufacturer names. No in-your-face advertising. A place where everyone’s opinions, thoughts, and experiences are shared through civil discourse. A sanctuary where all earbud types, ranging from branded to custom-made to do-it-yourself, are most welcome.

“Why did this project arise? Is it really needed?”

Earbuds have been with us for decades now, but times change. Over the last few months, the flathead lover community has multiplied, but it has also scattered. New tools like Discord have taken on forum discussions, but with that came the scattering, with crews residing on every server but never all together.

Given all that, most people also left the forums due to accommodation issues and the lack of transparency that most websites encourage nowadays. The combination of all of this, the idea for the “Flathead Sanctuary” was born in the depths of the Discords, and now it sees the light of the day.

The point is not to crosstalk or substitute any platform, but to unite earbud fans without borders, under a strict set of rules.

“So, what are the rules, and how will you enforce them?”

1 strike = warning! 2 strikes = jail! 3 strikes = out!

“Who’s running the show?"

The project was developed by three earbud lovers and audio-related buddies: Ian91, @nymz and @WoodyLuvr . I’m sure you can find our credentials somewhere.

“Ok, but who said you should be in charge?”

No one. It’s the Internet and freedom of speech doing their thing. You don’t have to join or stay. That’s the point: being happy and free.

“Fine, fine. You convinced me. Where can I join this madness?”

Discord server: Flathead Sanctuary

“I’m having trouble joining and I’m not sharp with technology. Can you help me out?”

Of course, drop a PM on any platform and we will aid you as soon as possible.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Sweet! I think the Grand Archers have be satisfied given how rarely I use buds, but do they ever satisfy!

It’s always a great surprised. I put them on out of necessity (open back in case anyone pops their head into my room while I’m planning) but boy oh boy do I enjoy every minute that they’re in for!

Sorry, cant count on my opinion.

My megatron is a lemon it seems.

Everything distorts through it.

Really happy to hear you’re enjoying them. They justv didn’t sit right with me. The Volt on the other hand has been a joy.

Back again - to announce 2 whole months without listening to IEMs!

Earbuds are the way!

That is all.

Haha that’s quite the feat! I went 7 hours (with breaks) listening to the Serratus today. Surprised at how my ears aren’t complaining after such a marathon session. Tried Olina (Tanya + original filter mod) to give my ears a rest but did not like the crunchy treble and soft bass…oh dear, what have earbuds done to me!

I can’t go back! I’ve sold off all my IEMs except for my Kinda Lava (which has been retuned to HBBs specs) and even that has just been sitting on my desk. I haven’t even had the itch to put them in my ears!

My listening time these days is basically split between Serratus, Alpha, PK1, Panda PK2S, and Riku Grand Rider, with Ripples and Asura 3.0FE coming soon.

My wallet was happy with my switch to buds, but with the rate I’m buying new buds, I’m basically on track to match my IEM spending…
