Thatâs funnyâŠ
Those who have recently gotten the a-100 please chime in on your experiences with it. Iâve just found out that the protection circuitry works really well. It went into protection when I was hot swapping interconnects.
Yep, that yellow light, i appreciate it and the fact that this little bugger takes a beating and comes right back on ticking
Iâve personally never activated the protection circuit
I was taking a shortcut in disconnecting my tube preamp from the chain and touched an interconnect to the hot DAC output plug. Protect mode came on instantly, itâs very sensitive. Turned the unit off, then on again, good as new. I tested it for you so you donât have to, . BTW, did you ever get a tubed pre/buffer for your unit?
I have not. Have my eye on other things at the moment
My Cambridge Audio SR20 is actingâŠweird. Not powering on sometimes unless I unplug it, try to start it, and then plug it back in. Probably some cap is already going bad.
The display sometimes goes haywire and doesnât show numbers, but chevrons from stargate, fixes itself with a ârebootâ.
Anyway, itâs out of warranty and I donât expect it to live forever.
Which brings me to the A-100, itâs like 200$ right now.
I have a desk setup with Monitor Audio Bronze 2. Theyâre relatively efficient at 90db.
Anyone using the Emotiva A-100 as a main speaker amp?
I have used it with various speakers and dacâs over the past 2 years. It provides the rated power and would be considered a âwarm side of neutralâ amplifier. Thus pair it accordingly with your DAC and speakers. It is well built, has good protection circuitry. Please do not expect $5k performance or features out of a $200 unit but you damned well get your $200 worth and then some. It is one of my favorite amplifiers and I would not bother to trade or sell it.
What does $5k performance sound like ?
Jokes aside, I got my fix with speakers and the Bronze 2s are enough, just need an amp that doesnât ruin the mood with having the crawl under the desk to unplug it. (The sr20 is too big for the desk)
Donât have the space and housing situation to care too much about the perfect speaker sound. Thatâs were headphones take over.
The A-100 looks like a nice cheap option for good enough.
As for DAC, itâs a BTR3 plugged into the PC.
YES I agree with this statement. It will power a pair of desk speakers well for a really good price.
I agree with this statement. Best $230 I have spent in a while.
Sounds like switchmode supply on its way out.
Looking at pictures, I would make sure this area is okay:
As my only speaker amp and to drive my T50RPs, yes. Running some cheap Sharp speakers with it.
The A-100 arrived today. First impressions on the spot: more bass but not as boomy, and more detail than the SR20. Itâs a lively fucker.
The SR20 is still really nice for the price, feature packed. But I like the A-100 more just for sound.
Edit: mkay so I like the meze 99s more now. Ditched the EQ, volume no longer hurts with them. BW Hybrid oval pads. Not messing with the jumpers until maybe some LCDs or Sundaras.
The piggy bank knows whatâs up. (excuse the filthy mouse, itâs 7 y/o)
Welcome to the A-100 club.
Use mine for desk/bedroom with elac debut 2.0 speakers and the beardynamic dt880, hd600s. Great choice.
Getting some serious static noise in the right channel. Both with speakers and headphones. It does not go away when listening to music. Itâs not a problem with the speakers, but with headphones itâs a big problem. Volume does not matter, the static is constant.
Happens regardless of the input or even speakers being plugged in or not. Changed wall sockets also, moved to another room.
It goes away sometimes but I have no clue why, probably noise from the electric lines.
Any suggestions before a return/warranty?
Edit: checked the âgroundâ in the oldschool way, grabbed the radiator and the amp chassis, buzzed the shit out of my fingers. Which is probably expected considering it doesnât have a ground on the power plug. Static still didnât go away.
Edit2: back to the store it goes, letâs hope they donât take long to send another one back.
Sounds like a problem, did you swap out the RCAâs to make sure it is not a bad connection or wire? otherwise, sorry to hear about the issue, an exchange is needed and that is always a bit of a pain. Good luck
Happens with no inputs plugged in, just power and headphones, tried with multiple headphones.
, Ok, long shot possibility here, pull out your instruction manual and look at page 11, remove the cover and make sure all near the spot where BOTH of the little jumpers go is fine. try the amp with the jumpers installed and removed. this will at least allow you the piece of mind that anything you could possibly do at home has been tried. My technical experience ends here and I am out of ideas. Good luck buddy.
I recently gave the A-100 away to my daughterâs fiance. They were using the built in TV speakers at home. Canât have that.
I had both the amp and my old Kef Q100 speakers packed up because I didnât want to sell either of them and figured at least they could put them back into use and maybe I just set the kid up on a personal audiophile journey.
