Question for the group… As I was thinking about this, I suddenly remembered that I still have my DA-9 speaker amp on hand. But of course, that is a class D amplifier, and I think I read somewhere that it’s not ideal to tap a Class D speaker amp for use with headphones. Is that correct, and if so, why?

Stick to class A, goldensound did a writeup on using class D for headphones and it makes a lot of sense…wish I could find that again.

HMMM… I just went on the Orchard site and the Valencia is showing at $1,599. Man, if they could keep the price at $1500 I would buy it. I just can’t justify 2 grand for it. I don’t have the money right now, I gotta save up so if that is an introductory price I’m screwed.
Granted that if you can save up $1,500, then there are plenty of options at that price if that one doesn’t hold.

Idk if I’d do Valencia since it’s designed to be transparent as possible. The fact that it has a ton of power is a bonus.

I sorta did have that thought. Because I’m not gonna lie, these things are suuuuuuuper neutral! To my ear, these at least. But it’s so different. None of my other sets sound like this. It also provides a great stage with power and depth. These are more “open” sounding than any of my other closed sets. It’s pretty great.
Oh, and unbelievably, the SH-9 drives them! I don’t believe they are singing at 100%, but it’s close. The THX is delivering a super clean presentation. This little amp is surprising me yet again.

Honestly for SS amps and sjy cans that should be the goal. The bliss drives current hungry cans very well and is neutral warm leaning.

So I went back over to the Liquid Platinum and they are back singin. I also cable rolled and put the Periapt on. Annnnd it’s gonna stay on. Absolutely love this cable with this set. The Magia will go back on the HE1000, so win-win.
I gotta tell ya, the more time I am getting with these things, the more I’m likin’ them. The sound field is so pleasing and yet non-fatiguing. You just want to keep on listening. To me that is a huge indicator that things are clickin!

I agree a good SS amp brings out a lot of the good qualities of the Horizon, but I have high hopes for the Valhalla 3 as it has been said that it is able to drive DCA headphones well. Still waiting on the release date (as another week passes), but they are aiming for this month (last update).
You know, I briefly floated the idea of the Aegir 2F. 
Then I slapped myself back into reality!
Man I’m holding my breath since 7k amps that are tuned for a headphone doesn’t drive it well lol
