Nice, congrats on the new cans!
Looking forward to your impressions of Horizon Closed. It will give me some more insight until I get my pair down the road. Until then I will enjoy my Horizon Open.

What a disappointment. I was supposed to receive my Horizon Closed Carbons yesterday and was supposed to be giving you guys my first impressions. I eagerly waited for the DHL driver to arrive, and when he finally did - all he delivered was the fucking cable. The headphone is nowhere to be found. Apos has fucked me yet again. Now I have to waste my fucking time chasing these assholes down and try to find out what the fuck happened and if I will actually ever see the headphone. The whole experience is kinda tainted now.
I will hook up the cable to the HE1000 tonight and compare it to the Tripowin Granvia that is on there now. The Magia cable is nice and well constructed, but it is not as substantial as I thought it was gonna be, so that is a little disappointing as well. But let’s see how she sounds.
Ouch, hopefully it gets sorted out, and you get your headphone. I never purchased from Apos, and after hearing your experience with them I may avoid them.
weird I’ve heard nothing but good things and had good experience with apos.
it does have a note on the page of up to 1 week for fullfilment, my guess is Jeffrey is having trouble keeping up with orders so they shipped the cable first
Yeah, for me it has been a real love-hate relationship with them. They responded to me this morning and told me about the week lead time. I can appreciate that, but when I ordered I did not see anything on the order page that communicated that. That is OK, as long as I know they are coming, it is all good.
I looked again and there IS a small note that says it MAY have the lead time. I guess I was too busy pressing the “Add to cart” button to notice!
it is pretty small text
Sorry about the experience with the delivery, I’m working very hard to speed up the production process. If there is any issue please let me know. It has been quite hectic for the past few weeks.
All is good, Sir. I was under the misguided impression that there was stock on hand when I ordered. Then when the cable came and not the headphone, it threw me off! But they explained it. Turns out I did miss the note about lead time.
All this to say… Don’t worry about a thing. I am confident that these are worth the wait. Thank you for responding.
Busy man making a dream come true. Keep it up @JeffreySJY I still stand by my comments that the horizon open is right up there with any $1k to $1.8k headphone.
Yes it’s true, My Horizon Closed arrived this evening. The unboxing was fun. I have never been one that required stunning packaging, and this packaging is good for me. Effective but not too extravagant. I like the box and how it opens. You also get this nice velvet pouch that the phones come in. I think that is a nice touch. We’ll get into the cable in a bit. But the introduction was good.
When you take the phones out of the pouch you immediately feel the weight of them. This is a significant feeling set, and I love that. They definitely look superb, much finer in person than in pictures. The build quality, to me, is magnificent. Every part is a quality piece, and they feel good in your hands. I find that the carbon fiber has an amazing feel to it, and it looks incredible. The headband as an assembly is excellent; clamping force is not strong, but they feel solid on your head. The fit is wonderful, especially given the weight. The pads are fantastic! Very cush. I have had them on for an hour now and have no issues.
The cable - it is not impressive, given the headphones themselves. It’s very thin and the weave isn’t real tight, but the fabric sleeve is OK, and the connectors are nice. It terminates amp-side with a 4.4, which is interesting. And truth be told, it sounds good. I did get the optional @ZeosPantera Magia cable, which is a significant upgrade both aesthetically and sonically. If you are going to get these headphones, I strongly recommend the Magia cable upgrade.
As for how they sound… Bloody Hell, they are very, very good. I need to spend time with them before I render sound impressions, but my gut reaction is that they are kind of blowing my mind right now. They are presenting music to me in a way I’ve never heard it before. These drivers are impressive and powerful, and they require juice to make them sing. The TA-20 couldn’t do it. The Liquid Platinum does it, but even there I am higher on the gain knob than I have ever had it! Haven’t tried the SH-9 yet, but we’ll get there. I bought these with the notion that I was going to be running them on the LP, so all good. I’ll tell ya, these now bring the Valencia HP power amp into play. We’ll just see about that!
I think that is all for now, I really need more time with them before I give sonic impressions. But there is stuff going on here that I simply haven’t heard before. I’m finding it to be an extremely unique and thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. More to come…
Congrats on the new cans!
While Valencia brings the power Horizon craves, it is a rabbit hole in itself as many have stated it will bring all the flaws of you chain you put before it. So expect the cost of Valencia to be $2,000* (* = how $$$$ you spend on tweaking the chain). That is one of the reasons I am holding off from considering that amp besides wanting to purchase a ZMF Aegis next year (which plays well with planar headphones).
On my end Mjolnir 3 grips the Horizon Open drivers with authority, and I am pretty sure that the Horizon Open will have similar success on that amp (once I get my pair down the line). Don’t mind me though, I am both a Class A junky as well as a Schiit Head.
I agree, I’m not buying it at $2,000 bucks, no way. Right now, the Liquid Platinum is doing a fine job, and I suspect there is a better amp for the job out there that won’t cost me that ridiculous price. I still haven’t tried the SH-9, but I have a feeling it will come up short as well. As much as I like Schiit products and the notion of the Mjolnir, the physical footprint doesn’t work for me. The Headamp GSX-Mini looked promising, but they keep on raising the price, and now it’s at the point where I took that one off the list as well.
All good, I will do some research while I start saving again for the next purchase. In the meantime, I am quite OK with the LP.
Maybe Valhalla 3 will work some magic with Horizon. I will let you know when I get one in hand (still waiting on the official release date).
I was actually looking at the Jotunheim 2 as well. I wanted to get one back in the scamdemic days, but Schiit couldn’t deliver one and I ended up getting the SA-1 instead. As time has passed, it seems like the SA-1 is starting to fade. It’s turning out to be a great pre-amp, but it’s ability to drive headphones doesn’t seem to be there anymore. So who knows, I might re-visit that possibility. I often wonder what might have been if they could have gotten their schiit together.
Well there is a silver one sitting in B-Stock right now.
Yeah, Jotunheim 2 is a powerhouse at its price with 7.5 watts into 16ohms (which is perfect for Horizon). I got my Asgard 3 late 2019/early 2020 so I managed to get it just at the right time.
So hear me out you could do a “cheap” yulong speaker amp for a few hundred bucks and drive the horizon of the speaker taps. Or try to find a used Williston R8 that would give you plenty of power with headroom. Or or get a big bad Cayin tube speaker amp and never worry about power again lol.
Are you saying “No matter what the issue, there is a Valve for that”?!
Another tip is my Burson Soloist that works just fine with the Horizon closed. Super transparent, all the power it needs and some and engageing.
