Everything SJY Audio

Yeah, the L70 never really did anything for me. I originally got it as a preamp, and it has been collecting dust for sometime now (my Soloist 3XP dusty as well until recently).

Class A amps are my thing as well, and that is why my Mjolnir 3 is front and center on my desk. Two watts of pure Class A pairs well with the Horizon.

Agreed on the power scaling, but there are some lower powered amps that do the trick. The design and implementation of the amp is going to matter a lot as well. Some amps claim a lot of watts, but fall apart with some headphones (track dependent). Then there are other amps that claim lower power output, yet perform better than some with higher power ratings.

Still awaiting the release of the Valhalla 3 to see where side that amps falls on for SJY headphones. Those who demoed it have given me hope that it will be able to work some magic with harder to drive planars. There is a possibility of it being released this month, so hopefully I will be able to get my hands on one by early next month.

There is always this option:

Yeah mainly as long as the amp can produce enough current it should be good regardless of wattage rating…I like speaker amps for SJY and tungsten. Tungsten is a bad example cause it needs a ton of voltage instead of current though.

No arguments with speaker amps for said headphones, as I use a pair of Gjallarhorns from time to time. Oddly enough the Vali 3 does a decent job driving the Tungsten DS according to one of the guys on the other forum (all be it cranked to full volume). I find Vali 3 does well with SJY headphones, but it lacks a little bass control (still detailed, but a little less weight) compared to my Mjolnir 3.

Gjallarhorns back on the desk powering Horizon this morning.

The pairing is good thus far with Horizon, but the Mjolnir 3 has a little too much gain (6db) to have more play in the volume attenuation. I might consider getting a Saga 2 down the line if I intend to pair Horizon with the Gjallarhorns long term. Something like this:

Bifrost 2/64>Saga 2> 2 x Gjallarhorn

It would be part of a 2nd or 3rd setup (depending on how you want to count it).

I will be going for the Bifrost 2 trade-in if Schiit goes through with it once the Bifrost Multiform comes out. So it might be better to wait and see/hear how that model turns out prior to purchasing the preamp. I am hopping for a Mini Yggy MIB sound from it similar to how the Gungnir 2 turned out. The combo would make an interesting stack to power Horizon as well as other SJY headphones.

keep hearing schiit is good shit but front power buttons when :joy:

Sometime between never, and not going to happen.

yeah think someone asked recently and they said they have no plans for it, a shame imo but guess it depends setup to setup.

I think some of it comes down to having to add tracing to the boards which would take up real estate that could be used for the signal path. Not really an issue for me either way, but it is problematic if you have an equipment rack.

I should break out the horizons tonight as they have been a little neglected.

That, Sir, is LITERALLY the Schiit!

Seriously, that is a great setup.

Thanks, I guess I have my Schiit together. :smirk:

I am playing with various configurations as I await the Valhalla 3 launch.

I’m in at a decision point here, I am going to hit my first audio goal for '25. I want to get one more good closed headphone. I have been enjoying the IEM experience, but it’s time to get a good closed set. I have it down to either the DCA Noire X or the SJY Horizon. I am locked up as to which one to get!

You got a lot of schiit.

I have been eyeing both myself, but those purchases are going to be next year. There are more impressions of the Noire X out there than the Horizon Closed, but that doesn’t mean much. A tough decision indeed.

for me at least the Aeon style cups weren’t very comfortable, if you haven’t tried one before could be an issue. can’t speak for sound on either though.

No, that is good input. I was wondering about that myself. Having 2 HiFIMAN sets (HEK, EDXS) I’m familiar with larger cups, but these are different. I don’t have large ears, so it might be OK. That said, I am kinda leaning towards the Horizon.

Well, things took another turn when I started looking at the ZMF Bokeh. I started to confuse myself, but then I decided that the tuning of the Bokeh isn’t going to work for me. I had the Noire X in the cart, but something made me abort and pull the trigger on these instead

I just have a feeling about these. I think they are gonna be really good. I got the upgrade Magia XLR cable with it. I think that’s Z’s cable colab if I’m not mistaken, so bonus. I’m very stoked to be getting these. :+1:t2:
