Everything SJY Audio

was a little curious until I saw the price tag :joy:

$2,000 + a quality preamp + a good R2R or MB DAC for best results.

It would be nice to demo it in my system though. My MJ3 on preamp duty paired with the Yggdrasil MIB, and powering Horizon Open.:drooling_face:

I have been seeing the SJY Audio stock selling out, so after seeing that there were only two Horizon Opens left in stock I decided to purchase my pair a few minutes ago.

I will be trying it out on this combo that I played with earlier today.

I watched his video earlier, glad to see more reviewers giving their take on SJY headphones. I just ordered a pair of Horizon Open, but I do plan on buying the closed down the line (one step at a time ). Based on his description they would probably pair well with my Gjallarhorn, but I would also like to try them on the upcoming Valhalla 3 (I know tubes are chancy with SJY’s offerings).

Four SJY Audio headphones and counting thus far in my collection, having a 5th one wouldn’t hurt.

My pair of Horizon Open arrives tomorrow. Well provided UPS actually attempts to deliver it .

Horizon Open has landed.

I will have a few listening sessions with it once I feel better.

I am going to try it on my Vali 3, Mjolnir 3, Gjallarhorn, and maybe my Soloist 3XP. It will be interesting to try it on the upcoming Valhalla 3, but no date on that yet.

You can’t tell the difference once it is on your head. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Also I got the Hinode in Orange, so it made sense to keep the colorful theme going.

I kept the Hinode wave for reference (how far SJY has come), but more recently I have been getting a little more use out of them due to the Vali 3 taming them.

You do have a nice selection of cans though.

Did a quick 3 way comparison between Mjolnir 3, Vali 3, and Gjallarhorn (preamped by Vali 3) powering Horizon. The main diffrense was airiness, and bass (both quantity and detail) with the Mjolnir 3 having the best result.

Vali 3 did a great job driving Horizon, but due to the lower headroom (1.5 watts) it was not as impactful. It did have a slightly wider staging due to the 12AU7 tube installed though. (will definitely use this amp for some albums)

While the Gjallarhorn does a excellent job of driving the Starry Night V1, the Horizon lost a lot of detail in the bass (almost muddy with acoustic bass). I will re attempt with the Valhalla 3 as the preamp at some point.

Mjolnir 3 has a solid grip on the drivers as it dose with many Planar headphones which is hard not to notice doing an A/B test. Since Horizon has a lot of detail, the dead silent noise floor of the Mjolnir 3 gets rid of distractions that can present themselves in other amps (one of the reasons I am debating trying them on the Soloist 3XP  )

I did get conformation on the other forum that Valhalla 3 can handle loads under 16 ohms, so I am really eager to try Horizon on that amp. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Long story short, I think Horizon benefits from a capable Class A SS amp. Anyone else have a preferred amp in their collection they pair with their Horizon?

I use the Burson soloist with v7 opamps and a Farad power supply to great effect. Very hard to beat in my opinion.

So it seems that the next Asgard is going to be somewhat of a Mini Mjolnir 3. That might be an interesting pairing with SJY Audio Headphones, if it ends up coming out (Jason left it open ended).

Contemplating the sound while listening to some Metal on my Horizon, powered by my Mjolnir 3 PP switched on. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I haven’t really noticed any major differences from amps, sounds great on everything I’ve tried, tempted to warm up the liquid platnium though don’t think I’ve tried it with horizon yet.

The addition of tubes via the Vali 3 opened up the soundstage a bit more (tube dependent), vs the Mjolnir 3 which despite having a smaller soundstage the Horizon had more slam and overall detail. I am going to hook up my Soloist 3XP to my main chain in power amp mode to see if it adds anything extra to the Horizon.

Maybe I should test the Topping L70 as well since I haven’t sent it to my friend yet.

The LP might yield some interesting results:thinking:. Report back if you end up trying it.

Trying another amp combo with the Horizon (Open) this morning.

Qobuz>Wiim Ultra>Yggdrasil+ MIB>Vali 3 (12AU7 tube)>Soloist 3XP (power amp mode/low gain)

Interesting combo thus far, as it is getting some of the tube flavor with a boost in power (better bass control).

speaking of L70 with Horizon I guess it sounds correct but a bit boring, rebel amp adds a bit of life to it, L-P dumps most of the bottle on it :joy: think it loses a bit of the “correctness” though, also tames the highs a bit on super sharp songs.

Cayin CS88A has been my go to for SJY anything since they do scale really well with power.
