The BTR5 has been pre-ordered. Had to use advanced MP3 players who wont have stock until 17/01 as no listing on amazon UK which is odd (well apart from one i seen for Ā£140 but you know that way that it gives you alarm bells before you even click the listing lol). Thought about the US amazon but they wont have stock until 21/01 or 27/01 I forget which.
I had looked into bluetooth as an option in the house but its not really required currently. Will be getting speakers so i can do away with my sound bar and this brings my record player back into the mix. Not got much love as not a fan of the sound through the crappy bar.
I honestly cannot wait to start my proper desktop set up, so many possibilities even in the budget space. Most likely hear from me again soon lol
Iām definitely curious as to how well the BTR5 performs in wired mode compared to the DragonFly Red and Cobalt. Iām primarily interested in how the BTR5 pairs with the Dan Clark Aeon 2 Closed as the DFR/DFC cause massive distortion and clipping at high volumes.
Sometimes it is easy to forget how spoiled we are in America (US). I do hope you love it. I have many FiiO products and all of them are holding up.
This can be a really fun hobby, but ever changing. My house was set up a year ago with Volumio. But, they decided to change their whole system. Looked into Rune, but havenāt taken the plunge. Amazon Music makes it easy, but doesnt have the devices I need / want. Keep us up to date on how your Blutooth speaker setup works. There is an endgame setup thread on Hifi Guides you should check out. I always thought I had a great setup until I saw what others are using. Something to strive for.
Side note:
I actually just upgraded the firmware on my BTR3 which enables equalizer mode for those who dont want to spend the money on the BTR5.
BTR5 just arrived, 2 days before it was even supposed to be in stock. I got to say I wasnāt expecting the sound difference from pc/phone to DAC/amp. Just makes everything better. That little bit wider soundstage in my zs10 pros and more warmth to the low end on my dt 770s, well what I think are improvements anyway.
Is there a thread to post pics of your desk etc. Got my speakers aswell and itās looking pretty clean although lacking desktop equipment which I already have started a wish list for lol
I donāt have a delay on my unit, I wonder if they have it configured incorrectly
I actually really like mine, I think it replaces the q1 mk2 for me for sure. Very nice overall. Really does shine in balanced but the unbalanced isnāt bad either. Just solid. I donāt think it competes with the m11, q5s, or higher end portables, but I do think it sets a standard for the price range
does this have a mic to use for phone calls with your IEMā's? I had the BTR-1K but it went through the wash looking for something to replace it and the extra power and balanced output seem cool. but the built in mic is a must for me.
I got a BTR5 as a gift yesterday and I tested/played with it constantly.
I have it connected to a Samsung Galaxy S9 and I used Audio Technica M50x headphones and the AKG buds that came with the phone.
I did a few calls while I was using the M50x, with the BTR5 in hand or inside the jacketās inner breast pocket. All the people I talked to did not have any issues hearing me.
If you have buds or headphones with inline remote/microphone and 4 connector 3.5mm jack, the BTR5 will use the inline microphone. Also the inline remoteās buttons (play, pause, vol up/down) work, at least they do on the AKG buds I have.
Also, the BTR5 has assistant support, so if you say āhey googleā, the assistant will wake up.
Iāve been using the BTR5 for the past week, itās a really nice bit of kit. I can finally push my P1s on the go! And wander the house and garden with my over-ear phones too. My only real wish is that you could store multiple custom EQ profiles, otherwise itās a remarkable little device. Maybe theyāll do an update
I was wondering if anyone has found a super short USB C to USB C cable, like the FiiO USB C to Micro USB right angle cables. The shortest I have is about 15cm with straight plugs and even that is a bit unwieldy. One like this but with C at both ends would be fab -
One option Iāve seen is on Aliexpress, thereās sellers who have accessories for drones. They stock the plugs and ribbon cables and you assemble them. Not sure how sturdy they are but heat shrink and sugru cover a lot of sins.
I might give it a shot, but if anyone has seen a super short C to C cable anywhere then let me know. Iām tempted to go buy one of those C to Micro cables and use my old phone, I canāt believe a short C to C is so difficult to find!
Can two BTR5s be synced with each other, so you can have one set of headphones (i.e. the Aeon 2 closed) and have each 4pin cable connect to a separate BTR5 on each side? I might be misunderstanding what is written on the Fiio Website - https://www.fiio.com/btr5
Yeah Robert is right, the BTR5 uses two seperate ES9218P DACs in balanced mode, one for each channel. In single ended mode just one DAC is used. Theyāre the same quad DACs as found in some LG phones, but two of them. So dare I say it, in effect, octo-dacs?!
You raise an interesting thought experiment though. The BTR5ās donāt sync with each other, but I wonder if you connected a couple up to a transmitter capable of multipairing and wired up a suitable cable for each side of the Aeons if theyād be in sync or give you an instant headache.
Hereās an odder thought - and maybe closer to what you were hoping for - if you could somehow sync them, bridge the two amps in each unit, turning them into single channel monoblocks, and wire one to each side of the headphone. Thatād be close to half a watt per channel right?. And almost certainly utter madness/drivel. Time for bed!
Yes, that is what I was thinking āif you could somehow sync them, bridge the two amps in each unit, turning them into single channel monoblocks, and wire one to each side of the headphone.ā Is that even a possible option for two BTR5s?
I donāt think so no. Brainstorming, I guess you could seperate left and right at source, run two transmitters with one running L on both of its channels and the other running R on both of its channels. Thatās assuming that the transmitters stay synced which I doubt would happen, not with the variance in lag. If they did stay synced you could link a BTR5 to each of them and at that point you would have the potential of using the balanced outputs to drive either side of a headphone I guess, but as the driver is expecting a mono input youād end up shorting the grounds of the BTR5 and bad things would happen. If you somehow had a headphone that could be bi-amped then it would have the potential to work - again assuming the two sides stay synced. Thatās a lot of assumptions! So I reckon the answer is almost certainly no, itād be much better to just use a more powerful Bluetooth dac/amp to begin with.
Dude! You canāt just post a pic and give no link, youāre playing with my emotions! How long is it? Looks nice and short. Itās funny you should post that right now, cos a few hours ago Amazon delivered these -
They work fine, the only issue is that my phone charges the BTR5, which isnāt ideal. I canāt seem to find a way around it, thereās no software option (except one that may possibly work if I root my phone and edit some system files) and hardware wise I donāt think I can snip a power wire without screwing up the sync too.
