šŸ”· FiiO BTR7

Hi gain. Volume level is about 40-50.
I mean itā€™s ok if I use full size hp. But with IEMs?

I agree that the BTR7 has its drawbacks. The battery and the phone software are #1 and 2 in my opinion. I didnā€™t realize that your listening level was between 40-50, personally Iā€™ve never needed to go that high with any of my IEMs on High gain. Iā€™m always hovering around 25-35 at the most. The most demanding IEM I have in terms of volume and power is probably either the Maestro Mini or the Monarch MKII but these are both fairly efficient IEMs. The ā€˜Balanced Boostā€™ feature to my ears helps the low end of the Minis so I leave it on.

I havenā€™t done any thorough testing, please note. I guess I always just feel as though my battery doesnā€™t last as long as Iā€™d hope it does. The Q5K is a phenomenal piece of kit. Between the power output and the amazing software, itā€™s probably the best way to go if you donā€™t need 4.4mm and youā€™re looking for portable use.

I have BTR5 and it last maybe 6-7hrs.
I like BTR7 for 4.4 and for itā€™s power.

Agreed. The battery life is a small price to pay for such a tiny device that outputs the power it does.

But BTR7ā€™s battery supposed to last 7hrs.

True, but you have to remember, thatā€™s marketing material. Iā€™d say 7 hours is best case scenario.

Maybe single ended, moderately low volume with no boost, would get you that 7 hours.

Tf are you driving with them that you need 40-50 at high gain lmao
At least with bal Ive never gone above 20 high gain
Usually still have battery left if it was near fully charged when I fall asleep while listening

S12 and Mest MK2. MAD24 is much less volume.

Canā€™t speak for the S12 but when I had my MestMK2 I donā€™t think I went above 22 SE Bal was like 16

Maybe my BTR7 has issues?

what do you use as the source? I LDAC from my phone

AAC from iPhone.

even my Sennheiser HD 650 is loud around 22 BAL, should be harder to drive than IEMā€™s lol

I know this is so random, but I think it is so sad that FiiO seemingly forgot about the BTR7. There are so many Software upgrades that could be done to excel this thing to a higher atmosphere. Sad.

Software updates/upgrades arenā€™t always possible if the hardware side of things isnā€™t prepared/designed for it.

I donā€™t say it is impossible for them, and they definitely could bring/keep more attention to the product, but some change may just not be possible.

The root of the problem is the strategic/political will of fiio: they are makers/builders, not developers. Not like qudelix, that are engineers that build stuff for engineers. The q5k might not be so good on the hardware/sound side compared to newer stuff, the app isnā€™t the most ergonomical, but man it offers so much choices, with great explanations, and is updated so often that it pleases people and the product holds its place on the market despite the sound upgrades from the other brands.

My point exactly. The Q5K is such an awesome little device that still gets meaningful software updates to this day and that device is a few years old if Iā€™m not mistake? I believe that FiiO could add at least a few more features when it comes to the software to compliment the hardware because truthfully, the hardware is beautiful. Very capable.

I donā€™t know - I believe itā€™s possible and FiiO is choosing not to due to new releases and or maybe their team is just not large enough.

My guess is that fiio is just not organized to be able to do an updatable product: they donā€™t have a big enough Dev team, and the said team doesnā€™t weight enough to steer the strategy of products to build.

And Iā€™m not sure they would want that if they could, because they have to keep their hardware engineers busy by making them create new stuff regularly.

But all of that is just guessing from my part. Maybe someone that know more than me could bring some elements.

I agree, the team members are most likely the biggest limitation they have at FiiO. If they could somehow combine their fantastic hardware with amazing software like Qudelix, they would be above all us in terms of the DAP/BT Dongle space IMO.

Based on the software quality of Qudelix, and their support and frequency of bug update fixes. I can say that they have skilful developers who write their code. Their UI design and functionality
is miles ahead of FiiO.

FiiO on the other hand seems to be struggling/has less developer support based on the old looking UI, functions and instability of their device (UTWS5 for me). I like my UTWS but at random times I loose one side of bluetooth connection, also the volume adjustment on my FiiO control does not reflect the adjustment I have set on the headset itself, I have to press the button on the physical device to reflect my change. That shows a lot.

Maybe itā€™s hard to find developers who understands the complexity of developing audio softwares, or thereā€™s a lot to learn.

If Ifi go pod can match the same app quality as Qudelix I might consider the 399 price tag. As much as I want to upgrade my UTWS5 I could not comprehend to purchase something that expensive without the same software quality as Qudelix. I feel that they have set a standard here. I wish Qudelix have their TWS adapter product.

Agreed. The BRT5 was just perfect in everything. But BTR7 has so many glitches like it was made by another company/team.
