From what @PapaEmeritus has said about the FH3/5/7, I would still pick the FH3 even if we remove the big price difference. Add that in and the choice is obvious.
Welcome talhataher. Yeah, it sounds like the problem I had. I also recall asking myself where the bass went.
No. If you prefer less detailed bass, less bass quantity and more treble, then sure, but Iām a bigger fan of the FH3. I personally feel the FH3 is the more enjoyable IEM and itās almost 4X cheaper. It also depends if you want to wait for the replacement or not.
This is why I waited for a FH3 replacement and bought a second set so I should never be without it. I havenāt had any issues with either new FH3.
The FH5 & FH7 are fairly redundant in sound. The FH7 benefits slightly from the beryllium DD vs the FH5 titanium DD but not by much. Fiio must have figured out how to tune their beryllium DD because it is completely different sounding in the FH3. The FH7 also has the nozzle filter which hardly do anything to the overall sound. They only effect the treble slightly.
@Rikudou_Goku & @PapaEmeritus thanks, guys . Iām sold! I also read your previous replies regarding the FH3. Guess Iāll buy the FH3s in bulk . If one dies I wonāt be left without a pair.
I listen to progressive rock/metal a lot and the bass drum sounds amazing with these. I was hoping FH7 would be an improvement over these but I guess they went for a different tuning there. Driver count does not equal more performance and I guess this is proof of that. Implementation and tuning more important IMHO.
Also, did you guys burn in your units? And if so did the sound change after that?
Me too!
Iām into very technical prog metal like Dream Theater. This is the best set Iāve found that can do my favorite genre justice, including headphones and IEMs.
I was burning in my first set when the channel imbalance happened. Now running them off my Fiio Q5s instead of my THX AAA 789. No issues now. I havenāt burned-in the new sets since my burn-in was probably too severe. I always turned the volume up during burn-in since I donāt listen super loud. Most havenāt found much of a difference in the Fiio sets after burn-in anyway.
Congratulations. Nice to see another fellow prog metal fan!
Exactly!
I actually burned mine in for 100+ hours. And there is no difference. I stated that in my review on it actually.
So just use them OOTB and enjoy.
I can really see how you would like the fh3 for them. Especially with the bass delivery and guitars. With the teas though, do you think itās too airy for dream theatre? The way prog metal seems to be recorded is airy and metallic? Atleast to my ears.
Thanks @PapaEmeritus. A big DT fan here! Been listening to them since I was 10 or so Haha! Really got into it ever since I started learning their songs later on as I play bass & guitar. And this IEM does justice to the genre. I have been listening to lots of instrumental albums like Animals As Leaders-The Joy Of Motion, Plini-Handmade Cities, Interval-The Shape Of Colour and, recently Kiko Loureiro-Open Source. The mix of Kikoās new album is super clean and modern as it was mixed by Nolly Getgood, ex Periphery bass player. Sorry, Iām going off topic. Just too excited to meet a fellow technical metal fan!
@Rikudou_Goku I tried burning in my unit for 50 hours or so but didnāt hear any difference. FiiO FAQ suggested burning in them for 200 hours or so but I donāt think that will help. They also suggest playing āsoft songs and to keep the volume at a middle levelā while burning in. Surprisingly my FH1s sounded different after 50 hours of burn in. Or maybe its placebo! I still find it somewhat fatiguing to listen to because of the peak. Did you guys by any chance try out the FH1s or the FD1?
I 100% believe that.
Hey Guys, from post ~200 im a loyal āGhostā in this discussion
Only thing is holding me atm, is that the fh3 are not available on amazon in germany atm. But im ready and willing to wait.
Im planing to complete my little āgoto-complete-setā.
Source is the Sony nw a55
plan is
- btr5 (or smth else)
- fh3
- good quality cable as backup( or maybe swap it immediatly)
- maybe the bluetooth Adapter from fiio to workout
unfortunate a lot of the suggested cable are hard to get here , did you have any ideas?
anyway , thanks all for the nice discussion
Greetings from good old Germany
I listen to all of those bands and also play guitar/bass and have been writing, recording and mixing music since I was 16. Been in a bunch of bands but do everything myself now.
Iām extremely excited about the FH3, because of itās capability to control the bass. Iāve got to realize that this might not be what everyone is after, but for me and the genre of music we enjoy, having something like the FH3 to enjoy our music with is a gift.
Agree, itās awesome to have a fellow prog metal fan in our community, especially someone who is completely into exactly the same music as I am (instrumental guitar) because we are musicians.
That review was dead on. Iām not as jazzed for the FH3 cable as the reviewer was but it gets the job done.
Thanks for sharing @Ohmboy
You can order the FH3 already from FiiO Germany and even pay via Amazon. I got mine here too.
As for the cable, I just received the Linsoul TRIPOWIN C8 from German Amazon. Definitely feels nicer than the default.
Another failure, might be a small QC problem (small because they seem to have sold a lot but only 3 people have reported it If I am not wrong): https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fiio-fh3-2-ba-1-dynamic-driver-hybrid-earphones.938384/page-15#post-15850951
Ditto the IT00?
Ehm what do you mean?
QC on the IT00ā¦not may imbalance issues reported?
Only me, PapaEmeritus and BGGAR from what I know so far. Not sure how many have bougth the IT00 in comparison to the FH3 though. The FH3 has over 100 purchases from only aliexpress.
Itās possible more have had issues and just never bothered reporting it publicly, either by just contacting FiiO/iBasso/Amazon, or they have just written it off.
Of course that is something we need to consider. Then again, the ones with problems are usually the loudest.
