What else does it do?

Check my review on it.

It is my nr 1 rec.

Loss of driver sound due to moisture build-up
I assume you wanted something positive instead, hahahaha. Hoping the upcoming A7 fixes this, even though I’m not really in the market now.

That has unfortunately been reported. But not everyone has it.

The a7 does not have that problem, but it does look like it has a different tuning from the a6. So going to wait until I heard it before I can rec it. It is supposed to come out next month though. At around 320 usd.

must say, @PapaEmeritus collection of tips inspired me to order some JVC spiral dots. while Final Type E tips have been nice to me, it never hurts to try others. cheers m8

So after reading comments on this thread and watching reviews, somehow or another these have magically appeared in my Amazon cart. And since I can’t remove them(apparently they keep reappearing) I was wondering if I needed a portable dac/amp(BTR3k/BTR5 etc) or can they play fine off my Galaxy S10+ phone? Also if I should upgrade from the stock cable or not. Any advice and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for everyone’s time!

I forgot to add that this setup would be for portable use for when I go out. Streaming Amazon HD(if that matters any) or I can download my playlist to my phone.

edit: additional notes on usage

They are fine off a phone, but they do benefit overall if you give them a nice source imo. A btr5 would be a good match if you wanted something portable and bluetooth, drives them well. Regarding upgrading the cable, if you go with a btr5 I would suggest grabbing a balanced cable to fully take advantage of what the btr5 has to offer. If you didn’t need bluetooth I would also look into the ifi idsd nano bl

You really don’t need anything past the IEM itself. If you mainly listen to mp3 files, you won’t benefit much from a DAC/amp. If you listen to lossless audio (honestly I can’t tell a difference between 320 kbps mp3s), you’ll benefit from getting a BTR5/3K, but you would ‘need’ a balanced cable to get the extra power output from the DAC/amp.

How much of an improvement does a DAC/amp + balanced cable make? Not much. Id wait for your actual IEMs to arrive first and decide if you’re already content with it. Otherwise, you’re not adding much value.

I was wondering the same when I purchased under the same circumstances
I run them off a FiiO Btr3k and they are nice and I really enjoy them
 just my 3 cents

Realize, most of us are nuts. For the average person, everything that comes with the Fiio FH3 is more than enough. It’s a fantastic IEM. If you’ve made your mind up that the FH3 is what you want, I recommend getting the IEM and just enjoy it. If you love it and want to push it further, we’d be happy to suggest items for you to think about upgrading.

One step at a time.

For your use case, I would consider going true wireless. Samsung galaxy buds (I forget the variant that’s considered good) or even air pod pros are really making great steps towards changing the IEM market. The cost of the FH3s + BTR5/3K + balanced cables add up to being close to airpod pros.

I absolutely hate wires when commuting on crowded trains and chasing buses. Just being outside and on the go with IEMs turns your focus away from the music most of the time since part of you needs to be aware of your surroundings.

Overall, wireless are much more practical as you don’t need to carry around a DAP, you don’t have wires dangling, and you get access to features that wired IEMs don’t have.

I already have a set of the new Galaxy Bud+ Plus for use at work, commute and noisy situations. I wanted a set of nice IEMs for use stated before and to also use at my desk with my headphones for a change of pace. Sorry I should have noted that before. Thanks for the suggestions!

I’d skip the portable DAP if it’s going to be used at a desk. A DAP is one more thing to take care of on the go and another disappointment if it’s damaged. IEMs sound fine off a computer motherboard unless it’s some cheap prebuilt.

If it sounds like crap out of your desk computer, then you can spend on a desktop dac (or save the money and listen from your phone for music). You don’t need a seperate amp to go with it as IEMs are easy to drive, but feel free to get a DAC/amp combo cause they can cost the same as a seperate DAC anyway.

Already have a Modius/Asgard 3 stack at my desk. Planning on getting a Zen Dac too to add to the collection  just to play with the XBass button on it

We are all different and we don’t hear 100% the same, so what ever I or others rec, it is with that in mind you should read it.

I am often OTG and use my IEM’s for that but also at the office where I work. If possible, I will always use my Xduoo XD05 plus dac/amp (BT to my phone) and always with a wired IEM. Mp3 or Lossless is the same, I can clearly hear a difference in sound compared to just running it out of my phone or wireless and especially both.
If you don’t listen to the music, but just need background noise to shut out the world, then wireless is okay. But to get the best sound, for me there is no doubt: a designated dac/amp + wired IEM’'s

But listen to PapaE:

Hello everyone! So I have been using the FH3s ever since it came out. I really liked the presentation and tuning. Unfortunately, few days back I encountered the same issue @PapaEmeritus had with his set. It sounded bad one sudden day. The balance was off and the right sounded louder than the left.

Upon further investigation, I found out that the low bass and “rumble” and sub-bass was gone from the left channel. I tried different cables but the issue was not resolved and I’m quite certain the dynamic driver failed in my unit. My local dealer does not have this in stock at this moment. They told me I can wait for it to come back in stock or I can add money and get the FH7 instead. If any of you own both pair can you tell me is it worth paying the extra to get the FH7 or am I better off with a FH3? FYI I previously owned the FH5 and liked them as well. This is my first post here. Hope someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Why not wait for it to come back in stock if you enjoyed it? I don’t think it’s good value for your fh3s if you’re only going to replace them within a month. You have the fh5s to listen to in the meantime.

Guess I failed to clarify the fact that only pre-ordered units of the FH3’s will arrive. So I have to let them know if I want a FH3 again or add some money and go for the FH7. I sold the FH5 almost a year back.
