Fiio K5 Pro VS SDAC & JDS Atom/Magni 3+

So I will purchase a DAC and AMP soon, and I wonder which is the better choice for the money, the K5 Pro or the Magni, and what’s the difference between the Magni 3+ and the Magni Heresy.

I can get the Fiio K5 Pro for $220 and the Magni & Modi for $200 and with shipping it should also be around $220, so about the same price.

Also I know that the Magni has more power but will I need that more power? and how’s the DAC in the K5 Pro compared to the Modi

So here’s the thing. The magni 3+ and heresy are the better amp compared to the k5 pro imo. But the problem with the current schiit stack is the modi 3. The modi has some strange coloration, dynamic range compression, and also is very forward. So I can highly recommend the heresy (the 3+ is probably good as well but I haven’t heard it) but I would not recommend the modi and would look towards a different dac

I heard that it has compression, but I remember reading a post on reddit saying that people who experience compression did something wrong with it, that its not supposed to sound like that usually

That’s not really true, that’s just how it sounds. The modi is just pretty outdated at this point

Well Imma hope they release a new Modi till I get around to buying a dac/amp if not then I’m gonna get the K5 Pro.

I would like to get some reference for power tho like how much power does a 150Ohm 58X, a 300Ohm 650, a 600 Ohm Beyerdynamic or something need, since the K5 Pro is 1.5W at 32ohms

The 58x is easy to drive and can be driven off of a phone so no problem there. The 600 and 650 are also no problem to drive, but I think they would sound better on a higher quality amp, since they can be picky.

The Beyer’s can be done on the k5 pro but you are really pushing it, the magni would be a better match for that imo

So I should stick to 150-300Ohms headphones, you saying, what about a Elex or a Clear? they have low impedance but I heard they are not that easy to drive

So the elex is actually pretty easy to drive, so either the k5 pro or the schiit would be just fine. The clear would also work, but I would really recommend picking up something like a rupert neve rnhp or something for the clears to actually take advantage of them

Hmm  What about the 1990’s and the Edition XX or the Ananda

Both should have no issues imo

or you could get an alternative dac instead. like a topping d30, smsl m100, or a tone board instead of the modi

Personally the d10 or m100 are great

them as well but with the d10 being a iffy buy right now I would wait and see how the market moves the new re branded clones as well as what happened to the legit models

Ye but where would I buy those from I can’t buy from Amazon

I can get the Fiio K5 Pro from a retailer here in Romania

why where are you located and where can you buy from?

Could you link your Amazon? Perhaps I could see whats available to you

We don’t have Amazon in Romania

ah. actually this coming january the liquid spark dac is set to come out I would want to see how good that is first as well . as its set to compete against the d10,d30 and the modi

could you order from germany’s amazon and ship it internationally? cause still within the EU

Well that’s gonna be annoying, also Idk if its worth it, with all the shipping costs and such, I can just buy the Fiio here for 200 bucks.

I am gonna list all the dacs and amps I can get here maybe this helps (around the price range of 200 bucks):
