šŸ”¶ Focal Clear Mg

After having spent 3 days with this headphones, the best thing I can say about them is that I really enjoy listening music with these (the best compliment I can think of). I own a pair of Hd6XX and HD58X Jubilee, and had for a while (before returning them) a pair of Anandas. But these are a completely different beast. Really fast and bossy. The most evident upgrade can be heard in the bass extension and slam. Itā€™s not overpresent, but its texture is definitely miles better compared to the Senns. I actually enjoyed the Anandaā€™s bass, but felt they lacked some slam and punch (main reason they went backā€¦). I enjoy the cohesion in the mids, specially regarding the guitar tone (listening to Siamese Dream or Superunknown was an amazing experience), but I feel vocals might sound a little recessed on occasions. Havenā€™t found any annoying treble / metallic timbre, but Iā€™m aware this new model is smoother compared with the original (which Iā€™d like to hear someday). Not any clipping whatsoever, at least not with my musical choices and volume.

Itā€™s still too early to draw any solid conclusion, but comfort is 50 / 50 right now for me, and I can feel the hotspot after 1 hour. The worst thing would be the creaking I can feel / hear whenever I grab them to take them on and off; I recently read that Focal doesnā€™t cover any headband replacement under warranty, and saw some snapped Elegias and Clears, which started to make me a little paranoid. For the old Focal Clear owners, what was your experience regarding the integrity of these after months of usage?

Got a few new toys in today. Focal Clear MG and SA-1 Singxer Amp. Looking forward to the weekend

I bought an aftermarket cable (Norne Silvergarde S3) because I also felt that the vocals were slightly recessed. Thatā€™s more of a preference thing I think. Theyā€™re actually very neutral and even toned, imo.

The silver cable did help provide some ā€˜clarityā€™ to the vocals and overall seemed to sharpen things up (not make them brighter, just greater clarity/precision).

I hope you continue to enjoy them.

Cheers!

Officially ordered my Clear MG Pro today! Ready to finally dive head first into Hi-Fi listening. Will be listening to them on a Schiit Modi3/Magni Heresy stack until I get the Modius Maximus hopefully soon from Schiit!

Head-fiā€™s You-tube review has a comparison on their measurement rig at the 7:17 point of the video if you havenā€™t seen it yet.

This particular set of measurements were taken with in-ear microphones.

got a few messages on the measurements, you guys are awesomeā€¦ very much appreciated

Got ahold of the shopsā€¦ they will have these in stock next week. That added low end looks like it may be more up my alley than the og clears so I definitely need to try these out plus I love the look.

btw is it just the new mg that has this tuning or is that the black and red variant mg pro as well? Never tried the black and red

From everything I have seen and heard the Pro and non-Pro are tuned the same, the differences are in the coloring and with what you get cable-wise, and the Pro comes with an extra set of pads.

lol those pads are insanely priced as it isā€¦ I guess if you can swing the pro then for a similar price that one would be worth it. Good to know, thanks

No kidding. Just be aware that the Pro doesnā€™t come with a balanced cable, if that matters to you. Thinking about it though, the extra pads does kinda make the Pros the better value since they are the same price.

Yes. So the OG Clear and OG Clear Pro are sameā€¦just Pro loses the balanced cable but adds the pads.

I mentioned some other post as well that I personally feel its worth it to get the Pro version and take the extra pads over the balanced cable. $200 pads or a balanced cable that you can get for $50+. Seems worth to me and I happen to love the look of the Red/Black. So win/win!

It really is the more economical choice, especially if you already have an aftermarket balanced cable for it. Having said that, if I had to do it over, Iā€™d still get the non-Pro. But Iā€™m a bit of an outlier. Most people completely new to this probably arenā€™t going to buy an amp with two separate sound signatures depending on which output you use in February, and then turn around a month later and spend $1500 on a brand new pair of headphones that almost no one has heard, lol. But Iā€™m glad I have those options, cause I feel like Iā€™m learning things by being able to swap between the Jot2ā€™s SE and balanced outs and hear how things change with these, because it wasnā€™t all that apparent when I tried it with my 6XX.

huh, so focal says mg and mg pro are the sameā€¦ thats rather interesting. I absolutely prefer the look of these over the pro
