đŸ”¶ Focal Clear

That cable will probably work.
The issue is the way the 3.5mm sockets are recessed on the headphones, you need either a narrow connector.
They can be either Mono or stereo 3.5mm connectors, it doesn’t matter, since it’s just using Tip and Shield.

Initially thought that Hifiman compatible 3.5mm connectors wouldn’t work with the Clear due to the contacts appearing different, but it turns out that they do provided they’re narrow enough to fit the socket. This post will now serve as a nice photo of some wires.

Yes they will both work IF they are narrow enough to fit in the socket.
Sames true of the Hifiman 2.5mm will work with either mono or stereo connectors.
Basically the socket only touches the end bit (the tip) and the bottom bit (the Shield).
Both are physically the same size as long as the wiring connects only to Tip and Shield on the Stereo Jack (which every headphone with a similar connector I have does), both will work.

Question for owners and @M0N: I’m looking at my chain now, currently on the Monoprice THX Desktop, been looking at

Burson Audio 3X range
Questyle CMA Twelve
GSX Mini w/ Denafrips Ares II
Holo Cyan, then GSX Mini

Headphones will be Clears, Gold Planar GL2000, 600, 6xx, Ollo S4x, Grado 80’s/Hemps, Beyer 770 80 and 250
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hm. I don’t know if I would go burson with clears imo, personally I think that can get a bit sloppy with them in comparison to other options, but it probably would be nice for the gold planar given its a very impactful and full sounding amp. Also their built in dacs are mediocre imo

the cma twelve does have good synergy with the clears but you would be limiting yourself dac wise and it wouldn’t be the best value imo. Not sure how it would preform with a goldplanar though

Regarding the gsx mini, what I would do is go for the cyan first, then grab a mini, as I think that would lead to the highest tier setup you had mentioned. My only concern is that it will be a bit bright for sure, so that’s something to consider, it’s a more bright analytical but still organic choice, it ends up being smaller on the stage side but pretty solid depth and placement, dynamics are pretty strong as well

I would definitely also look into a dac2541 + v280 combo as well as imo that would have the most synergy with your components if you didn’t mind a more neutral smooth leaning amp, really good control and slam factor with a pretty large stage with still accurate placement imo. Personally it’s my preference over the cyan + gsx mini for most of the headphones you listed, but it would really come down to preference for what you would decide on

yes i will add the soekris combo as well, im def looking at synergy and being able to scale. is the Ares a strong pass for you with either the GSX or Vio?
Im trying to fight my need for aesthetics over sound as well

i felt using the Cyan as a dac amp first was an easier quick upgrade but i know separates should be better scalable

also is there a ZMF you’d take over a Clear or one that has the same resolution capabilities? the GL is my first Planar so im not quite sure what else to look at what synergy with them, i do know im sensitive to veils, looking at the Bottlehead as my tube flavor for the Senns

I just think that the cyan is worth the extra cost over the ares with the gsx (although the ares does have pretty decent signature with it), but imo the ares is borderline pass with the 280, I would really want the soekris there

That’s pretty feasible imo, that would make sense, you could do the same thing with the 2541 if you went the vio route as well

I mean a verite or vc, but otherwise I would prefer the clear to the rest of the zmf lineup, although they are pretty different headphones from the clear

Always a great choice for the senns and beyers

awesome thank you, ill start my research on the vio and soekris, will the soekris or cyan pair well with the Bottlehead or should i go completely separate setup there?

The cyan will pair well, the soekris is a more average pairing there

I’m getting a Burson Conductor 3XP in the next few days for a 2 week demo so I can let you know how they pair with my Clears. I’m really far more interested in the Soloist 3XP over Conductor but that wasn’t an option at this point.
