đŸ”¶ Focal Clear

That’s true, no point keeping a pair of Clear and then change its characteristics

I have an OG Clear pro and Echo 2 I will be trying out after an excursion this weekend. Will report back. Overall Im a fan of OG Clear pro
but also down to sell for 850 euros if anyone is interested.

Yeah Verite Closed sing off that Echo 2

Looking forward to your impressions. My Echo is Mk 1 and I’ve always wondered how much an improvement the Mk 2 is

Yeah that to me would be a much nicer pairing, would highlight the strengths of that headphone much more

Not to derail the thread further but I also prefer Atticus on Echo over BHC

anybody else with the OG clears have issues with bass? I get great bass performance/impact up to a certain point and when I go passed it they entire thing starts to distort. There is a bit of vibration noise at certain frequencies but then when I adjust the fitment it goes away.

Really the distortion only occurs for sub-bass and at levels that likely are healthy for your ears for sustained listening levels. Not a huge deal but it is an annoyance.

nope, never had distortion but I did have a copy that would start popping in the left ear cup at certain frequencies

Make sure you don’t have a hair touching the driver.
The Clears will clip if you boost the bass significantly. But it’s not normal for that to happen without EQ while at sane listening levels.

Yep no hair touching them not eqing it only happens down in the 30-40hz range and at unsustainable volume levels. Hence not a big deal but def gives me pause on boosting a base shelf.

Sending my Clears by to Focal NA for a warranty repair/claim today
I believe technically my pair is out of warranty bu they waived it as a “goodwill gesture”. Pretty solid customer service thus far but lets see if they are able to fix the clipping.

Any idea of the volume that happens at?

I read about people that listen crazy loud and I don’t get it. If I go much above 70Db’s for any duration, it starts to hurt my ears.

My friend somehow snapped his Elegia headband. Sent it in under warranty, received a B-stock pair. They may do the same for you.

Here I am once again with another dac/amp question

Since I had a schiit hel 2 as my Dac/Amp, which started bugging out, I am back in the Dac/Amp game a little sooner than expected. I was planning to audit a lot of amps for a year or so and then decide if I wanted to upgrade and to what. Sadly I need to speed up that timeline, since I am without any form of dac/amp now. Positive side is I get my full 200 bucks back from Hel 2.

Schiit seems to have some QC issues if you ask me. A lot of their new Hel and Fulla are having bugs. I have also heard some of the Asgards they are sending out have some humming in one channel. I know there are a lot of Schiit fans on here, but since I am in EU, I am not sure I want to buy another schiit device right now. Big delays on ordering and a chance to need to RMA it will take just too much time. (I do want to point out I still like Schiit, and they are handling these issues pretty well if you ask me!)

So what are my options to pair with a Clear MG if we exclude Schiit? My budget is 1000 euro max, but keeping it under 700-800 would be even better. I love listening to the clears, I don’t think I am going to extend my headphone game further. So the amp doesn’t have to be able to drive heavy planars “just in case”. I do want to hook up a small desk stereo system later on, so pre-amp is an advantage. I honestly did like the Clear MGs on the Hel 2, and while I did hear improvement in an audio shop auditing some other amps, I was really content with my hel 2. The difference start to become so small.

Right now, I have come to 3 options:

  • RME Dac, with internal amplifier. See how I like it, and possibly upgrade the amp later.

  • Singxer SA1 with an somewhat entry level dac (SMSL M300 MKII?)

  • Try and buy something cheap 2nd hand and wait for schiit to get their schiit together and buy a bifrost + Asgard / Jotunheim later.

What I really like in option 1, is that the DAC is really top notch AFAIK. Such an top notch DAC will always be useful, and could also be used in other systems. Option 2 is the cheapest option, and focuses more on the AMP part of the equation. A Dac upgrade would be possible in the future (Bifrost?) Option 3 is my least favorite I think. I could be waiting for a year with all the shortages etc. Being in Europe just makes Schiit less appealing.

Opinions? What have you guys paired with your Clear MG so far? I have seen some Singxers in here, not sure about the paired DACs though. Curious how it would do on the RME internal amp, anyone experience with that?

Thanks again!

With the OG clears the bf2 and RNHP is generally regarded as one of the best setups in that sort of price range, although I personally preferred the BF2 and Monotor. As for the MG I think the Jot 2 with the bf2 is pretty well regarded

Can confirm!

I can’t speak to the Clears exactly, but I Love my Elex’s on my Liquid Platinum amp. Can you get Monoprice products? Or perhaps used Violectric?

DAC wise, I was very happy with my SMSL SU-8. I suppose the SU-9 is even better.

The BF2 is going to blow your whole budget and you don’t really want the hassle of dealing with Schiit.

I can’t personally verify this, as I didn’t bother to pick one up based on his experience, but @Falenkor said that the MLP+Clear Mg was not a good pairing.

Maybe the Clear MG is more amp picky? It treats my Elex’s wonderfully.

I have heard that he Clear and Clear Mg are quite amp picky. But I only have the Jot2, which the Clear Mg works well with, so again, I can’t personally verify that.
