I had been regretting selling my Clear Mg for a while now, so I took the opportunity to buy these off Headphones dot com with the sale. Theyāre just a little too bright for me so I got a pair of Dekoni sheepskin pads to quell the treble a little but also elevate the bass slightly and oh yeah, weāre in business.
Iām a huge Focal fan and I think they do dynamics better than anyone in the business.
Yea I have them on my Clear MG. They are a bit thicker and therefore you get more width to the soundstage. Also they do increase the clamp pressure due this result and I notice more of a hotspot on top now. But this might mean the pads need a bit of break-in time. I purchased the lambskin perf.
I would somewhat disagree there, depends on what your budget and your higher end setup is imo. I would say it is somewhat of a poor value to run them only off an a3 assuming the dac is at a similar level
I agree with this to a pointā¦Will they sound good on the Asgard3 with the built in dacā¦Yesā¦If down the road he chooses to upgrade his amp/dac will they scale with the upgrade? Absolutelyā¦I have the Elex, but I have listened to the og clears on my Asgard3/Modius setupā¦It doesnāt sound bad at all.
Good choice, my personal favorite around that range is the rnhp or the monotor but the g111 is also quite good. What dac are you thinking?
Gotcha. It will sound good, not like it will be a bad experience, but I still would say that value wise it isnāt really that strong in this case as thereās a decent bit more you could be getting from that headphone/leaving on the table. But the og clear has been dropping in price so perhaps it could make more sense
Would I be better off with the Elex? Iāve read a thousand reviews and am convinced that of the two, all things being equal, Iād be happier with the Clearā¦and am afraid that if I bought an Elex Iād never shake the idea that there was something betterā¦Clear would be an end-game.
Well in Europe the Lake People seems like the straight forward choice thatās mainly why. Plus I like that it has the power to back up the price.
DAC wise I have no idea really where to go to without breaking the bank so I am glad that you ask this question. So what would be a sensible option to work well with a g111?
Also I am looking to acquire a motu ultralight mk5 or a motu m4 as an interface and was really wondering if it would be a bad choice to use it as my headphone DAC as well?
If I were you considering you have set you heart on the Clear I would get it and plan to upgrade my amp sometime (sooner rather then later) after that.
I have the Elex paired with the Asgard3/Modius stackā¦I really like itā¦I bought my Asgard3 usedā¦The guy I bought it from had it for a little less than three monthsā¦It was a deal I couldnāt pass upā¦It has the dac chip in itā¦I will be honest I prefer the modius over the dac chipā¦I have done extensive listening with the chip and the Modiusā¦To my ears the Modius opens the sound stage up and adds a punch to the bass and cleans the low end upā¦The dac chip also takes away from the power of the amp alsoā¦If you read reviews you will come across thisā¦It is trueā¦With the Modius I usually donāt pass 10 oāclock with my Modiusā¦When using the dac chip I have to listen around 11 oāclock to get the same volumeā¦You will not be disappointed with this set upā¦
If you want a clear, then just go for it at this point given how good of a deal they are (if theyāre still being sold new around 990 or something similar)
I wouldnāt, simply because itās not going to be a big upgrade from the internal card, imo youād have to move to something like a bf2 for a substantial jump imo. The modius is a better dac than the internal donāt get me wrong, but I think for something a lot more substantial youād have to go higher
Iād say if you could swing something like a bf2 or ares ii that would be pretty great, another awesome option is a soekris 2541 as well for something higher tier and also more neutral than the aforementioned. But if you didnāt want to jump as high as those (although I do think itās worth it with a clear), an allo revolution dac + nirvana smps works quite well as a pairing imo (and also should be attainable in the eu)
Not personally tried the ultralite and only the m2, it likely wouldnāt be bad option to feed the g111, although Iād put the m2 at below the aforementioned allo somewhat. But if youāre going to get one for other reasons you might as well use it as the dac for the time being, itās going to be just fine, then you can upgrade later on for a nice performance boost
Itās sick that Iām even considering spending $$ on audio gear. Honestly, my A3/HD660S sounds fricking great. And sometimes I swap out the Senns for my Andro 2020s. Iāve just got that itch. Iām sure you all know what Iām talking about.
The Andros, I must remind myself, were a good lesson re: diminishing returns. They are great but not multiple times better than the cheaper sets of IEMs I own, despite being multiple times the price. I strongly suspect thatās how Iāll feel about the Clearsā¦better than the 660S but not even remotely proportionately better compared to the price difference.
