šŸ”· Focal Elegia

andorama has been having them consistently for $400 I tried them but besides a more premium build wasn’t an upgrade over the 177x’s I got for $300 so sent them back (also that clamp is killer)

Andorama isn’t available in europe. My link doesn’t seem to be a fake site, because the elegia arrived today.

It seems they changed the cable, because mine is all black. I saw a black/white or black/grey cable in review videos and on pictures.

The fact that it is very short and stiff, is convincing me that i purchased an original focal headphonešŸ˜…

This is the ā€˜updated’ cable and the same one I received a few months back. It still sucks and if I’m gonna get a crap cable would have preferred the old one they still show in the photos because at least it looks good. Get yourself a new one.

I agree. I was somewhat disappointed to see that disgusting thing laying there in the box. At first I threw it in the trash but my Wife reasoned with me and so I have ben trying to unjank it. it’s been about a month now and I have been making progress, but it’s still kinda janky. If they would have just coiled it it would have been so much better. But hey, it’s getting there! I did get a replacement cable immediately.

That said, the headphones themselves are fantastic. I feel they are the best set I currently own.

They either don’t have the cable anymore, since they changed in all the lines; or they changed because of multiple people having the cable fail after a few months (like mine). Either way, even this bad cable seems better than the garbage old cable IMO. And if don’t break, even better.

Ignore your wife and please throw it anyway! Or maybe recycle it…
Besides being a wire only fit to close a gate with the cable I had actually had different frequency responses between the left and right channel… I actually thought I was going insane at the time, but after building my own cable the issue was gone.
How can you fuck up a cable that badly, it’s literally just a wire…

I know, right?! From a company that does this for a living!

I shall heed your advice, Sir. It will go in the trash tonight.

Or I will tie up the gate with it!

Or the wife :smiling_imp:

Cold solder joints can work in fascinating ways, yep.

Oh… Good call. Forget the gate!

Ah that totally makes sense! I don’t think I’ve ever managed a cold solder joint, usually if I don’t solder correctly it just doesn’t make a connection.

I have the same short cable.

Especial cue as a Studio Headphone:

Love Mr. And Mrs. Patreon

HA! Nice to see the Elegia’s in action. She wears them well, although I can’t believe she is using that janky ass cable! Catchy tune, btw. I like the bass line, and the sax player stands out for sure.

I just had another epic evening session with the Elegias last night. These are really sounding good with the BF2 > SA-1 combo. I can’t figure out if I like this pairing or using them straight out of the TA-20 best; they are both pretty darned good. I see hours and hours of listening ahead to make that determination!

I also got them from Amazon Germany and I’m glad other people have gotten the black cable…I was worried for a minute!

Original pads on my Elegia wear down after about 1 year and I decided to take a risk and get the Dekoni Elite Sheepskin (solid) for them. Couldn’t be happier, they got a small bass boost that add to the Focal Slam. They also upped the isolation a tiny bit more. The clamping force did get a little higher, but the overall improvement is totally worth it for me.

At $89 can seem steep, but if you liked the Elegias give these pads a try. Or maybe wait for a b-stock, got mine for almost half the price. I don’t know how but I’m in love all over again with these headphones.

Edit: grammar, sorry.

If you don’t have one already, get a dual 3.5mm cable to avoid focal shity cables. Also can recommend the Dekoni Sheepskin if you want a little more bass.
