Thanks for the input. I believe I will go for a Hart cable. Has anyone requested custom colors? Is that an additional cost/wait?

Donā€™t know that it generally adds much wait unless itā€™s just a color he doesnā€™t stock, but it is a $2 upcharge per item, or $4 for specialty (i.e. glow in the dark). For more details, hereā€™s the custom shop page.

Thank you.

I tried emailing them over 3 weeks ago for a custom order and havenā€™t gotten a response. Iā€™m guessing the custom shop is heavily backed up.

I also have the Hart cable system for a few cans, itā€™s worth the wait!

Just thought Iā€™d post a few first impressions here.

As stated in my initial post, the build quality of these is next level when compared to the other headphones I have in the $400 range (Sundara, ESP95X).

Verdict on comfort is out - seems like a pretty tight clamp to me, and the spring loaded cups take some getting used to. Despite what many people say about difficulty getting a good seal, I feel like I get a great seal even with my glasses. Definitely a good bit of isolation with these, and they donā€™t leak much either, as I was listening in bed next to my wife the other night and she didnā€™t ask me to stop.

As far as the sound goes, I really donā€™t have much to complain about. I feel like they are pretty well balanced. Sounds to me like they are well extended on both ends. I can see how some people would consider them ā€œbass lightā€ but I feel like it is about right for me. Bass seems to be very dependent on the track: some tracks sound like they are bass heavy, and some are rather light.

Lots of details in the highs to my ears, definitely not too bright or sharp. Without looking at a frequency graph, Iā€™d say the treble seems even rolled off a bit.

Vocals sound great to me. Plenty of body to them with a natural timbre. I know some people find them a little ā€œtinnyā€, but I donā€™t get that at all.

Soundstage is definitely good for a closed-back. I think they do an excellent job of imaging and presenting the space.

Iā€™ve mostly been listening to folk and listening has been done on my Modius / A3 and on my ES100.

Overall, I think Iā€™d classify these as relaxed but fast and detailed, which seems to be the sound that I am gravitating towards (Iā€™d say the ESP95X is similar in this regard).

Thus far, I am quite happy.

Awesome impressions! Bonus that they seem pretty spot on to what I hear with them.

Exactly. Said it a million times lol. They play the track.

If you like the elegias for folk take a look at the ZMF Eikons. Next level. Similar soundstage size, better timbre and speed. Speaking as someone who mainly listens to acoustic and folk and loves the elegias to death. The other option is the Clears (which I also have). Straight up upgrade in every way except isolation.

This.

Very nice and glad to hear it! Thanks for sharing

Also, welcome to the Focal Force

Iā€™ll definitely be looking at other Focal products in the future. Honestly, I was shocked by the build quality. These have a very premium feel to them. When you have them next to the ESP95X and the Sundara you can see how they could initially charge double the price for these.

I didnā€™t know we were calling it Focal Force now! I dig it.

I bought this:

Balanced and color matching (black and silver). Not the cheapest, but a lot cheaper than boutique cables.

Got mine from Hart, but any dual 3.5mm TS or HE-4xx/Sundara/M1070 or other standard dual 3.5mm TRS cable should work.

I have the HE-4xx that has 2.5mm instead of 3.5mm so I had to quickly order the ones that I use on the M1060, 3.5mm for balanced cable

I may be echoing earlier statements but my first few days with these are proving to be pretty nice. theyā€™re more laid back compared to the clears and less dynamic and resolving but I prefer it in this case. the presentation is similar which is great and I imagine is a ā€˜focal thingā€™, that sort of surrounding delivery is pretty cool. I find it kind of neutral bright similar to a sundara but it comes across as more energetic im thinking due to the improved dynamics comparatively.

Ive been hunting for a good closed back compliment to the Sony z7 and these may just be that for me :+1:

if only the rest of the cable was as excellent as the connectors

Yes! My yin & yang pairing is the Nighthawk and the Elegia. Sounds like a similar relationship between you, your Z7, and your Elegia.

Yeah definitely the same idea. Itā€™s nice that it seems to slot in exactly where I wanted it to. But againā€¦ early days

What source chain have you used with the Elegia?

Asgard 3 with multibit and a3 with Donald dac. I prefer the multibit. I need to try the zen dac as well eventually (with the a3). Hip dac is on the way too but Iā€™ll probably wait until I get a balanced cable to use tha (portable for work will be the use case there)

Nice. Still planning on picking up the A3 soon. I enjoy the Elegia most so far on my Liquid Spark and the Hip Dac. I didnā€™t enjoy it as much on the Dragonfly Red. I like warmer sound signatures generally so I like that those two amps add a little bit of warmth to the sound.

They sound great on the RME>>G111 chain
