Iām also curious about your comparison to the Elex. I donāt have it yet but Iām considering it as my open back upgrade. I want to know how itās different and how itās similar to the Elegia. That will help me know whether itās worth it to me to own both, or if I should go after a different open back from somebody like Hifiman or Audeze.
Just got to unbox my Elegia. I can safely say the build quality is far beyond anything else I own. Havenāt had much time to listen yet, but Iām looking forward to it.
Had to grab a pic of that cable: it has a mind of itās own!
Elegia by Salvadore Dali
Getting not only a good seal, but the ārightā seal, was really needed in order to produce proper bass response in my experience. Experiment with trying to get the seal right, I had to basically force the cups to be angled in at the back of the cup. Then they became as neutral as they are claimed to be with precise, accurate, and punchy but controlled bass. They really show off the Focal driver tech once you can get a good seal.
Hmm I wear glasses, so I feel like getting the ārightā seal will be near impossible tbh. I still think it sounds great, donāt get me wrong, but getting really impactful sub-bass is something I donāt think I will get from these unfortunately.
Although these seem to seal better than most glasses wears for me. Iāve read that some people canāt get a seal, but I really donāt have any leakage personally. The glasses I wear are quite close to my face, so most of the time I get a good seal on headphones though.
Okay I found some songs that actually kick the bass up in these a lot, goodness. It definitely doesnāt sound as neutral as I previously thought yesterday lol. Really enjoying these.
Also now that Iāve had these for over 24 hours, I must say these pads and the headband are incredibly comfortable. This is easily the heaviest pair of headphones I own, but it doesnāt really feel like it due to the comfort level, which is really nice. However, this cable fucking sucks. It will not straighten out no matter how much I mess with it. Might get an aftermarket cableā¦
Yea. Like I said, they bring out the bass when the track has it. If youāre really interested in bass use eq. The elegias will oblige.
Otherwise they do justice mostly to what the track intends.
exactly what im finding
From my very limited listening: Iām enjoying folk the most. Vocals sound great to me. Definitely has a great sense of space for a closed headphone.
I have two cables on order through Hart, going to be a long wait though.
Yeah, vocals on these are definitely the most stand-out for me so far.
Also @Pr3ssAltF4 I am thinking about getting into using eq. Never done it before, but I think if I could up the bass just a tad, these would be nearly perfect for me.
Yea. I tried it a bit, but I just like the way it presents the bass. If Iām looking for punch or rumble Iāll throw the clears or the eikons on.
If I didnāt have the other two I think Iād still be good with it
Percussion on them is my favorite.
That photo really captures the essence of why that cable is hated lol. You should post it over on the funny picture thread
Does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive 2.5mm balanced cable that will work with these? For my ES100.
Looks like maybe a Heart Audio Cable with the 2.5 adapter would be the way to go? Other options to look at?
Yeah I can recommend the Hart cables. I have a bunch of them. Just takes a little while to ship once you order usually. Donāt know if any others off the top of my head. I have the Hart cable for my Elex, I love the interchangeable termination system.
There are a lot of options on AliExpress if you are into that sort of thing. Iām considering picking up this one terminated in 4.4 to use with my Hip Dac:
They have a silver cable but cost more
I ordered two from Hart and other cables as well. If you donāt want the interconnect system James can make them terminate how ever you prefer. Ordered one like that for my dadās set and will just use a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter if he ever needs to plug into a different device.
Periapt makes cables as well other users have said are great, also in US and custom ordered / ship times apply.
They Meze cables mentioned will work but I personally donāt care for the look of the thin 3.5mm connectors with the recess on the Elegia, I want something to fill that gap as much as possible.
