Can’t go by me on the amp — others talking about brittle/harsh treble. I am in a minority at least , on amps — at least on this forum!

Hearing all of you saying to go higher makes my wallet cry. lol

Don’t have a ton of amps to evaluate but I can say when using my BTR5 there were some moments the Treble kinda ā€œstingsā€, and I hadn’t heard this with my other 2 amps at the time (DACX6 and Element II). But since I had noticed the treble is a little forwarder with the little Fiio in general, I didn’t pay much attention to it.

And although I can’t say these for all the songs, I’m generally very happy with my Elegia pair. Curiosity hasn’t made me want to go higher yet. But I will say the Clear is something I would like to hear.

RNHP is pretty dang sweet with the Elegia if you can swing it. Lol

I was thinking of headphones. Ever since I liked the Elegia, the Clear is now kind of a ā€œmust hearā€.

But that’s good to know. The RNHP and (possible) Burson Fun 2 are both on my list of possible future upgrades. Thanks!

I’ve had Elegia for a month and a half, now. Something I’ve noticed about it, personally… I feel like I need a good deal of ā€œbrain burn inā€ for each session. Sorry if that isn’t a term, haha. I repeatedly notice that for the first 30 minutes or so I am being extremely critical, picking the sound apart, finding things I don’t like, analyzing shortcomings. But after a while I stop noticing anything that bothers me. After 4 hours of listening to music I am in some kind of amazed nirvana, like, wow. I own these??? This is happening???

It’s been interesting to have these as my first higher-end headphone… I’m caught in a space where I’m not sure what I should spend money on next… an amp or some other accessory for Elegia, or an additional pair of different headphones. Anyway this has been a fun month. :>

What is it about the Elegia’s sound that bothers you during that first half hour? If we can identify that we can get you pointed in the right direction on your next set.

I could not have said it better myself. That is exactly how I felt for the first couple weeks. Now, I notice the differences in how they sound, but only when using them with different DAC / amp pairings with a heavier emphasis on what amp is used. Also, I no longer perceive anything as a shortcoming. What the Elegia has taught me is that certain genre and even specific albums/tracks sound better than others with this headphone but, that does not mean that the headphones are not good. I came to realize quickly why many ā€œaudiophilesā€ have so many sets of headphones - It’s not to show off… It’s so they can pick and choose which headphone they want to match up with their selected audio chain and source. I have come to really appreciate the Elegia I own and I enjoy being able to reach for them when the mood strikes me or when I want to listen to something the way they present it vs how another set of headphones presents it.

I’ll see if I can put it into words tonight!

Yeah, I am definitely realizing that certain tracks/albums sound way better than others and I don’t really blame the headphones for that. When the information is there, the headphones do an amazing job presenting it. I think they also do an amazing job presenting a lack of information in the recording, bad compression, or bad mixing, etc, haha! A messy or compressed sounding mix sounds messy and compressed on this headphone. Which is a good quality, technically. Maybe what I really need to do is start revamping my music collection to a higher quality, haha! But I mean, there’s not much you can do for tracks that are what they are. Maybe a headphone that is better at masking lesser quality recordings would be nice to pair with Elegia?

I’m trying to put into words what I feel is lacking during the first few minutes of my listening sessions. And it figures that right now I’m actually not finding any problems, haha. They sound awesome. I tend to EQ them with a dip right in the mid range because sometimes I feel like the mids compete with the other frequencies a little. This is only for certain tracks. For other tracks, flat seems perfectly good. I also generally EQ up the bass but not for every track. Sometimes I feel like the timbre of the Elegia would possibly benefit from more warmth and darkness to help fill out the entire thing. I mean, man, I’m actually confounded here trying to talk about it!

It’s on the dark side out of the box:

Oh! I’m using the wrong word for it, then. Instead of dark… maybe… just warmer and fuller in the lower range. I actually do like the higher frequencies.

Are you getting a good deal with the pads? Seems to be a widely reported thing — makes all the difference in bass reproduction on these

That is 100% a term on this forum. Not sure if it is anywhere else. Ha! I find the longer I have owned the Elegia the shorter that brain burn in time is because I already know what to expect from them. My two cents.

Dude the Nighthawks are calling your name. Can you hear it? lol

This is what I have discovered as well. I no longer hunt for an ā€œidealā€ sound signature. I try to appreciate each headphone for what it does well and collect different sound signatures for the variety of music I listen to. With the Elegia I very much enjoy what I perceive to be a neutral sound signature with really good extension and dynamics that are very tight and controlled. When I want that kind of sound, these are what I reach for.

The idea orbā€showing offā€ multiple headphones amuses me. I live like a hermit but I’d be ASHAMED to let friends see how many damn headphones I have. And ask any old time audiophile or ex- or somewhat/maybe audiophile… chix do not give AF at all.

I’d be a little ashamed to tell some of my family or friends exactly how much I paid for what I have already, haha! They would think I am insane. Meanwhile, compared to others here, I’ve spent next to nothing. Yet I do want more, more headphones… moorrreee…

I have the stock pads on these and those are the only ones I’ve tried so I can’t compare, yet.

I have only used stock pads too. Just see if slight amounts of hand pressure at different angles fix the seal… I think.

I wear glasses — with incredibly thin wire arms, and even there Infer some bit of difference with the seal, not wearing them.

Anyway, just a thought. Of course you may have a good seal and still want more warmth. Dif’rent strokes.

Oh yeah, I did have this problem at first because I was wearing really huge earrings. I didn’t even think about it, either. But a few days later I realized, oh man, these stupid earrings… removing them made a huge difference. Fashion is meaningless compared to sound quality! Now that I’m aware of it I think the seal is fine, sometimes I have to move the headphones a little forward on my head and that changes the sound a bit, too.

I don’t know, each day I listen to Elegia, it just gets better. And I do think it’s because I’m becoming accustomed to the timbre and everything unique about them. The bass slams, there’s still tons of detail throughout. Sometimes I’m listening to acoustic folk music and it’s like I can hear that the strings on the upright bass are round, you know? Haha, yeah. I’m losin’ it. I think the main thing I’m coming to terms with is that I’m always going to want to hear other headphones no matter what, that curiosity isn’t going to quit now that I opened this can… no pun intended.

LP replacement is here with a proper volume pot. Elegia is much better on this amp. It’s actually pretty good now. I have what I was looking for - non-offensive sound with good technicalities. I think I was missing out on the technicalities with the other amps I tried and that was what was annoying me. Now I’m happy

Yep, The Elegia really came into being for me on the LP as well, really nice! Whomever recommended the LP to me (@WaveTheory) really hit the nail on the head, and smashed my wallet but oh well, all is good!
