So the clears are more neutral sounding but with better technicalities, so if you are willing to pay the extra I think it is a step up, but the elex is the better value
Which of his amps do you think would drive the Elexâs better, SP200 or Liquid Platinum?
I really liked my Elex on the LP.
Iâd consider the LP to be just a better amp than the SP200.
Well, I have room on my Sweetwater card to get the Clears. I have no way of funding the Elex atm. Admittedly, I am impatient but I have been considering Focal for months now and the Clear was never available open box until today. I am very tempted. How does the Elex compare as far as bass response? I would use the Clears some for mixing but mostly for listening pleasure. Are the Clears good all-arounders with many genres, etc?
I agree with this, the clears and elex sound similar on a sp200 but different on better amps
I use clears in my mastering rotation, works well for that. The bass response is extended and very tight, well controlled comes to mind. They work well for most genre tbh, fairly neutral
The Clears use dual 3.5mm cables? I am close to getting them. $1099 is a fair deal for these? I realize the Elex is a better value, but this is my option atm and I could justify getting them as an upgrade over the Elex.
Would they sound noticably better on the LP?
Correct, their cable is very meh for the price though
Yes. Or on something like a rnhp would be a sizable improvement over thx for the clear. You can use the clear on a thx no problem, but you arenât going to get as much as the clear can offer on higher end amps (the elex isnât this picky)
I have extra cables for my T1.2 that would work, including 2 balanced XLR that Iâd prob use most of the time. Is there any difference b/n the White Clear and the Black/Red one?
Nope, the clear pro sounds exactly the same but has a different color scheme and some differing accessories. I got the pro because I found it cheaper than the regular one lol
Yeah, this is a " Focal Clear Professional" in black/red.
How about the Elex, in your opinion?
I personally, would NEVER pay the twice the price for a âbit betterâ. But it goes to the law of diminishing returns, which is just about anything in audio over $500.00.
The elex is less picky and has a higher value proposition. Also a bit more fun w sound signature (although still fairly neutral), I would say your amps you have now are plenty fine for the elex
Would the Clear be overkill or way out of place with my amp collection?
I donât think so, as I think the liquid platinum would be more than fine for them, would add a bit more flavor to the sound too. The clear scales well, so in the future if you wanted to get a higher caliber amp you could too
OK! Hold on here guys!
All of this âstuffâ is subjective. You can trust me, I know what Iâm doing. I know what I like. I have owned a lot of audio equipment in my life. Iâm not a kid either. I log onto this site usually to help others with my knowledge base and I also love constructive discussions that help me learn new things.
But I wonât tell you that one headphone is better than another. I love all the headphones I own for all different reasons. There is no perfect headphone. Also, just because the Aeolus costs about double that of a TR-X00 doesnât automatically make it better. It is different. I love the Aeolus for what it is. I also love my Elex. But if someone asks me what my favorite headphone is that I currently own, it is my Lawton modded TR-X00 by a long shot. For me, there is no other headphone that I enjoy more in my home. It is my favorite. If you want me to go into why it is my #1 choice, Iâd be happy to have that discussion, but honestly it doesnât matter. Itâs my favorite and thatâs that.
My TR-X00 for you might be too bassy or have too much dynamic slam, but thatâs what makes me love it for the music I enjoy. My TR-X00 is a perfect match for how I expect my music to sound in my headphones. Iâm really that happy with it.
And for the record, here are just a few pictures of some of the headphones I own.
Alright gents. Stewing it over, but think I am about ready. As always, thanks for the input!
Itâs all about the enjoyment and finding whatâs right for you
