Agreed. Still a worthwhile comparison if youā€™re new to the hobby and trying to figure out and define preferable sound signatures. Comparing such different headphones was useful for me and was curious what he thought.

I rememeber the phantoms being compared to the sundaraā€™s and not matching up. i had the sundaraā€™s and the aivaā€™s where a much better upgrade, and the elex is supposed to be a upgrade on the Aivaā€™s. So i dont think the phantoms come close to the elex

I would say in detail and refined sound probably yes, but if you are after bass heavy sound, the phantom might be the better choice for you. Also I went and listened to a phantom so now I can comment on it lol

Maybe mine are just a unicorn pair modded to perfection (unlikely), but no matter what song I pick, during A/B testing I pick the Phantom every time. The Elex cost more. I WANT them to win. They just donā€™t (for me).

Mon, Zeos just got a coupon from Drop for 100$ off the Koss ESP/95X, making them 400$. How do those measure up to the Focal Elex? Should i get one?

Lol just picked up a pair for my dad, but if you want a very light and airy sound that makes detail retrieval easy with an almost like in your head sound, also mid-range somewhat pleasing too, but dynamic range compressed bass light sound then yes. Or if you just want to try estat. I think the koss 95x are the best estat under 1k if you buy something new

They got Elite Velour (base price), Elite Sheepskin (+ $30), Elite Hybrid (+ $40), or Fenestrated Sheepskin (+ $40)

Which ones should i get? Which one will ā€œimproveā€ or change the sound in a good way? BTW im not a basshead

Be aware that focal headphones donā€™t take well to non focal pads, and imo degrade the sound quality. I have heard the dekoni replacements and imo they really werenā€™t that great with the elex. Focal puts a fair bit into the design of their pads and how it effects the sound

Dekoni only tested those pads compared to the stock Elear pads. So Iā€™d probably expect the sound to be closer to Elears with those pads.
