Foreign music recommendations

Here’s some Romanian modern hip hop/electro/folk.
You won’t understand any of it probably, but it has some phat beats and horns.

if you like Mediterranean sounding music check out the band “Viza”
they are Armenian & Greek hard rock with lots of middle eastern elements such as doumbek, oud, and as you mentioned, duduk as well.

soo, here’s some German stuff

usually not my go-to genre, but here we go with Deichkind:

and some original hiphop, Die Fantastischen Vier:

Here’s some clean and well controlled female vocals from Kyrgyzstan that I came across last winter:
Ayana Kasymova

And a duo with Ayima Ayilchieva:

Both of these are on Ayana’s EP Суротуно on Google Play, which you can’t even find unless you spell it (or her name) in Cyrillic characters. Speaking of language barriers.

And for those of us dealing with toasty weather these days, something nice from Mali (Africa):
Fatoumata Diawara

I recommend the whole album Fatou.

Haha, OK then. I wasn’t expecting that modernized beat, but it works. On the more traditional side I can suggest this album: https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Khusugtun_Khusugtun_Ethnic_Ballad_Group?id=Bth4jqas5b2tkfejmjgns5xcxjy

Might already sound familiar to whoever’s seen Netflix’ “Marco Polo”, especially Batzorig Vaanchig’s voice:

Just picked up this album today at a local record store: https://bit.ly/2ZALH8e. I’ve only listened to the first disc (it’s a two disc album) but I like what I’ve heard so far. Definitely worth a listen for anyone even remotely interested in middle eastern music.

Another great Greek Artist is Giorgos Mazonakis. The link below is the song Παλιόπαιδο θα γίνω, which means Rotten Child.

It’s not foreign for me, because Im German, but I love the band Bilderbuch, espacially their Album Magic life, but their newest one is also great. They make alternative German Music.

Yeah, one just has to assume this was meant as “foreign to the English-speaking countries / English-centric music industry”, otherwise it would be an anything-goes thread, as we have people from all over the world in the forum and anything can be foreign to somebody here.

As for German music, I could mention Rammstein, but they’re already quite well-known, so I’ll point out somebody else - a singer I noticed in the late 90s on the European music channels on TV. Guy has a very good voice, one of the best male voices I know (and I hardly listen to male vocalists at all):
Xavier Naidoo

Also made some good songs with some of his bros under the name of Söhne Mannheims:

Bonus: a nice little ‘various artists’ type gig I found when I actually started looking for his songs to download, a roster of several good vocalists including someone from the Kelly Family:

How about that for “foreign” music: Radioactive pianos from Chernobyl!

Microtonal music:

A bit more original:

Gayageums again.

For the lolz:
