I have an iFi ZEN DAC that does native DSD, I believe. How would these compare?
The Burr Brown chips in the Zen Dac are Native DSD as far as I am aware. The JNOG being an AKM chip is also capable of playing Native DSD. I use HQPlayer for upsampling music in PCM and DSD. JNOG does this with no issue up to a listed DSD512 (with caveats apparently). Zen Dac is probably little warmer then the AKM chip. Having heard both and owning both thatās pretty much it.
Would you say you have a preference b/n the 2? Iām leaning towards getting the JNOG as I already have the ZEN DAC. Just want to make to it would be a worthy upgrade.
Honestly, one is not really better then the other to me. They are justā¦different. I know thatās not really an answer but one is just a different flavor then the other. I think having both is fine, especially as the JNOG can reveal lots of interesting micro detail if you have the cans and amp now or later. I think there is a case to be made for having both. I prefer one in some situations and the other in other situations.
Any power supplies recommended for this as an upgrade or is the Geshelli PSU āgood enoughā?
The stock PSUās seem to work as they should for me. I have a Jnog and an Enog. Both great DACs.
I think the included power supply is fine personally. It would be one of the last things I upgrade if ever.
The included power supply is generally ok but I wish there was an alternative for those of us with multiple devices. I have the Jnog, Erish and Archel 2 GMR and have to use small extension cords to connect the 3 devices to the same UPS since otherwise they donāt fit side by side.
Holy SHIT, this thing sounds good.
I am very impressed by the JNOG. Initially the bass was really lacking, but after about 8 hours the bass kicked in and the soundstage got really big. It is a very detailed dac. Has great instrument separation. I am noticing things in music I never did before. Transients on notes last a lot longer than on other dacs I have tried around this price point. I would not call it analytical sounding. I think they are way undercharging for this thing.
I didnāt want to start a new thread, thought here was the best place. I hooked up the jnog to my liquid Platinum with my new Worldās Best XLR cables and no sound. Switched out with RCA and there is sound. My first thought was did i swap left and right since the jnog is a little funky (from what I am used to) in that L and R position are based on looking at the dac from the front. The LP is the opposite. That was not the issue unfortunately and I find it hard to believe both individual cables are bad, but very possible. I donāt have any other XLR cables to test out and thought I would see if anyone had a similar issue, before I order another set of cables. I also donāt see a reason these would not be compatible cables either.
This might be a really stupid question, but did you switch the input of the plat over to xlr?
Holy shit I am dumb! Canāt delete post fast enough haha.
Well thatās good that everything is working lol, much better than broken cables (or a broken component)
Donāt delete it - Let it help someone else. I do silly stuff all the time, no shame and if it helps someone else itās all good karma!
I wont delete. I agree, its good to see others simple mistakes like this.
now I can get down to some listening!
It will sound even better as the tubes break in. For me on the stocks, it was around the 80 to 100 hour mark. It just kept getting better and betterā¦
Enjoy!
That has definitely been my experience so far. I bought barely used off someone in this forum and he had put about 100-150 hours on them and I have put maybe 80-100 myself. Excited to see how the jnog compares to the e30.
Looks very interesting.
So, I can run two computers both feeding in via SPDIF, balanced to my THX789, and select between them? That will save me a bundle.
