I’m waiting for him to look up at the camera to give his impressions…
is Timmy bringing emo back?
DUNU x Gizaudio DaVinci impressions by vianhoho
Saving the best for last. I’ll say it right now; this will be my next IEM purchase when it comes out in a few weeks’ time (words from Yumu of Hifigo. Yes, she was there. Yes, she’s a real person LOL). The best way I would describe it is that it takes the sound signature of the Binary Acoustics x Gizaudio Chopin, which was the previous collaboration IEM Timmy of Gizaudio made and improve it based on the feedback from the community, which as far as I can see it, mostly revolves around the mid-bass tuning; the Chopin does that “Harman thing” where it tucks the mid-bass, resulting in a very clear but very thin sounding midrange. In fact, he improved it so much so that it’s the first thing that jumped out when I was trying it for the first time; just how full-bodied and hard hitting the bass response is. The midrange and treble, I feel like, was left largely untouched but the changes in the bass response definitely had an impact to how they were perceived; they felt more refined compared to the Chopin which felt brighter and forward in comparison.
Great news that second DD doing its job!
I think DaVinci will be a surprise to most people. It’s not a tuning anyone would expect me to go for. I hope you guys get to try it
I have heard much great feedback on your Colab, Timmy. Many people who heard it at CanJam came away with nothing but positive praise so looking good!
Yes, but does Doja Cat sound good on it? That’s all that matters.
Exciting! It’s out in a few weeks time no?
Now the waiting game begins for release but also how it compares to the Dusk!
Dunu and I initially planned to launch DaVinci during the weekend of Canjam Singapore with the version 2 tuning. However, as great as the tuning was, I felt it was missing a special sauce to make it truly worthy of being named “DaVinci.” The bass response was good but not yet magnificent. It needed to be even more punchy, visceral, full-body, and enveloping. So, I sent my feedback to Dunu to fine-tune the bass to transform it into a bass worth remembering.
One month later, they returned with the final tuning just in time to showcase at Canjam SG, and I’m thrilled to say our last-minute effort was worth it. The feedback from Canjam was beyond my imagination. Nearly everybody loved the sound, with most stating that the bass was the star of the sound signature. To my great surprise, the DaVinci was well-received by casuals, veterans, and critics alike. The feedback at Canjam makes me even more excited for everyone else to try it too
Thank you so much to everyone who came to the show to demo the DaVinci. I’m happy you enjoyed the sound very much, and I’m looking forward to launching and getting the DaVinci in your hands very soon!
Graph for V2 & V3 also available on Squig!
I haven´t tried any newer release and don´t know how far the industrie has come but does this compete with something like SA6 MKII, EJ07M, Mahina when it comes to technicalities?
I am sure tuning will be great but I am more interested in the technical prowess
I can’t compare them as I would be the most biased person here lol
that was a quick reply
come on timmy…just say it is the best out of the bunch
do you have a price?
The tuning looks as genius as DaVinci himself!
Truly my cup of tea. The slight tilt of the lower midrange for warmth, the late and gentle pinna culminating at 3k for correct vocal emphasis and clarity, the slight dip right after to avoid crunch at 4k, the scoop at 6k to avoid sibilance and then an injection of treble around 8k (some of it is surely measurement artifact) with no nasty upper treble peak marring the timbre.
$299 and this is an instant buy. Instant my guy.
This will kill the Dusk for many at that price like myself who have been sceptic about DSP.
DaVinci compared to Chopin
On paper this is just perfection, it’s exactly what I would change with the Chopin.
It’s like a warmer Studio 4, surely with a much punchier bass.
It will be that price if nothing goes wrong lol
I hope you end up liking it man!
Around $299 if nothing goes wrong
I’m interested. Do you know if the armatures are sonion and knowles? Or other cheaper brands?
Edit: another thing, the peak at 6k is to avoid some fatiguing? And that one at 8k is to create the sense of soundstage?
Mid-bass balanced with sub-bass with a smooth transition to the lower mids!? Yay! I am very interested.
Edit: the Kato has a great lower mids down to sub-bass balance for my tastes. The DaVinci looks like it ups the overall volume of Kato’s balance in those regions.
