🔶 GoldPlanar GL1200

Alright new update after months of ownership and a new amp:
I feel like the converter box for this headphone is total garbage. If you want these to sound as sharp and pristine and fast as the Raal SR1A, its a simple process: ditch the box. Either buy the raal box or buy the schiit Jot R. With either one you need a Nemal Raal adapter (30$?). Anyway, this process completely transforms these. Its almost like owning Raals and being able to listen to them in their sweet spot like intended (parallel to the ear). I had trouble listening to Raals within their sweet spot. The Jot R is made for these. No reason not to buy it. Ditch the speaker cables once and for all. Are these now faster, more detailed and sharp than electrostatic headphones? Yes. yes, they are. The Raals best estats in that regard. Not saying they’re perfect… They aren’t for everyone. Imagine the inverse of an intimate analog sound, akin to maybe a kind of digital-like sound. I enjoy these now.

And on a totally unrelated note… Linsoul does NOT provide ribbons for 10$. They provide them for 300$, which happens to be the same cost of a pair of Raal ribbons. I havent tested to see if they are compatible but I’m 90% certain they are. I’d love for someone to test that out, The thing with Raal ribbons is that the headphone top enclosure/seal is actually stuck to the ribbon. I suspect it would make the GL1200s look janky, but still function. I feel like Raal ribbons would be way higher quality and better tuned, but they could be the same and Gold Planar may have just ripped them off entirely like the rest of the headphone. No idea. I suspect the Raal ribbons are akin to the GL Silver ribbons. the Gold ribbons sound less linear and more colored, smoothed out, and slightly more thumpy in the bass. I actually prefer the midrange of the silvers by a little bit. I’m loving this sharpness they have. I had these posted on Audio Mart but since I got the new amp to breathe life into them there’s no way I’ll part ways with my pair now. In the end purchasing the Raal headphone is a better bet than the GLs, and I’d rather people support the real engineers that pioneered this tech. Raal spent 8 years to develop this technology and GL kinda went and just stole it in a few months. This is why GL is able to charge so little in comparison. The only reason I’ve got these is for comfort. I really did not enjoy the comfort of the Raals and wish Raal would offer some alternatives.

Just got my pair - burning them in right now. There seem to be no clear instructions about swapping the ribbons in the box.

Does anyone know how to swap in and swap out the ribbon drivers?

Are there any included instructions/manual at all? I haven’t heard this, or the Monolith AMT, but finally just heard HEDD v1. It was pretty nice, but absolutely massive and clampy… I would definitely take Clear MG over it.
