So I took mine apart today and took out the dust filter and the 2 tuning paper in them. They do sound a lot wider but it was a little too sibilant for me so I took out only one tuning paper in between and left the dust filter and the tuning paper that was taped on the drivers on. They sound better to me now than stock. Thanks!
Now that I had some more time listening and comparing the GL2000 to my HD 560s, and having mixed Crinās and Jasonās EQ configurationsā¦ I notice the flaws and I have to use EQ with them unfortunately. Does the the modding cope with these flaws of the tuning that the EQ fixes?
the mod makes them sound almost perfectly normal for my tastes as i like my sounds to be a little sharper and brighter. they still take eq really well but i honestly dont use any at all now except with certain genres i give like a 5.6db low shelf bump at 110hz and under if i want that extra slam.
Did Pokrog mod, phenomenal
Did you remove both the papers? Do you agree with any of the criticisms of the mod (lack of detail/volume)?
Anyone experiment with any other tuning papers/materials to find a happy medium? Or, has anyone tried any other sound related mods in general? (i love modding)
I just received my Ananda today. Listening on my M400 & SP400 Iām having a tough time between it and the GL2000. Personally I really like the sound of the Ananda. I feel like the GL2000 has slightly more bass, but the bass I get out of the Ananda sounds cleaner and better controlled. The GL2000 is definitely wider, and to me that makes things sound more interesting. On the other hand I feel like some details get lost due to that wideness. The Ananda seems to preserve more of those details while still keeping some width. Thereās also a few songs that come across a little fatiguing to me on the GL2000 that donāt (or arenāt as bad) on the Ananda.
The GL2000 doesnāt come across as āclearā as the Ananda to me, but damn is it fun to listen to. Something about its sound signature makes things more interesting (to me) and that extra width creates a sense of space that I really enjoy.
I promised my wife Iād sell the one I didnāt like. I expected it to be an easier decision At this point Iām seriously considering also picking up the Arya just to see if itās any better (and probably put my marriage in jeopardy as well).
The detail skyrockets despite theories. The clarity is amazing and im going to be selling off a lot of my headphones now, including my anandas, Aryaās, and Zeusās. Also once I find a design I like im going to start 3d resin printing some backs to turn the glk2 into a closed back and see how I like it. Might also do some custom grills but most likely just gonna keep them wide open.
Keep us posted, id love to hear about those results. I donāt really like the way you can see the driver through the grills when you remove the tuning paper (or it being exposed to dust that can potentially damage it.) I wonder if there is some way/material to keep it visually opaque behind the grill and keep out dust without having a large/negative effect on the sound.
I think im going to make some grill covers that snap on the outside just for storage or when theyāre not being used. If enough people want some I guess I could do a big run if thereās enough interest. Pad adapters also sound doable because the pad adapter thatās on there is removable and could easily be swapped. Iām still in the enjoyment phase right now though and itās gonna take a while before Iām ready to tear into them and do real measurements. @AdultHuman
Iāve been hopping between my Liquid Platinum and my THX 788 and the THX amp is the clear winner imo. The hybrid lost clarity and focus, it was just sloppier all around and I didnāt hear any redeeming trade-offs.
After much pad swapping between the two stocks and the XL suedes Iāve determined that my original favorite (stock leather) is actually the worst sounding, much to my sadness. For low end focus the XLs sound all around tighter, and the hybrids are way more crisp, open, and clear. As much as I want to hold on to the low end, because these desperately need it (imo), Iām starting to lean towards the hybrids as the top pick.
Also solved my vocal problem with some more EQ tweaking. Getting awfully close to calling them keepers.
thanks for the ananda impressions vs the GL2000, it sounds like something i would like . also its freq response is much more linear and i like that from the aeon. we will see i get the ananda tomorrow.
fist for sale that ive seen. idk if im aloud to share this . sorry not mine
Been a few on Head-fi tooā¦
interesting. i guess its too be expected. should sell well.
Iām more in line with @Falenkor here. The imaging is certainly a huge improvement over many headphones, but I seem to be losing positioning between 10:30 and 1:30, and the same for the rear. I do like how bright they are for gaming and they really bring out footsteps without the base walking (haha) all over the footsteps.
I havenāt used any of the headphones that @Falenkor suggests in this price and higher that have better imaging qualities so I canāt compare.
Iām okay with the pads so far. The side and softness likely help distribute a lot of the weight on my head so I donāt notice the weight that much. I just got a pair of Focal Clear MG Pros andā¦ ugh they are killing my head. Currently they are being stretched out since they are so annoying. I think it comes down to how they fit you and if the weight is too much or not.
I bought mine used last week and got them Thursday. Iāve been seeing them go for $500 to $600 fwiw.
wasnāt too hard to take out the tuning paper + the paper glued on to the driver unit.
I left the mesh on (glue gun it on).
sound positioning seems to have improved.
since you were comparing your ananda to the gl2000 i havent heard the gl2000 but i am absolutely blown away by the ananda. i can literally hear high hats above my head the snare in the middle and the kick below my ears and the band surrounding me. not to mention insane detail ive never heard from sundara. blown away. high freq are forward but somehow not siblant? crazy, if the gl2000 is even close than i would hope everyone here is freaking out if you come from sub 400$ cans but if they are like the sundara you are missing out.
A good soundstage/imaging song would be Muhlrad by Michael Wollny
