šŸ”¶ GoldPlanar GL2000

I got my pair yesterday. First impressions are - holy cow that soundstage! Itā€™s wider than my Vokyl Erupt. The stock leather pads seem to slightly ā€œsuffocateā€ the sound, maybe because it lowers the treble I feel like that, I dunno. Changes are slight, but the stock hybrid D-shaped pads sound a bit clearer. Yep, they are not comfortable and Iā€™m waiting for some large Brainwavz pads to try them on. I donā€™t have more expensive headphones, but I really enjoy these so far, although low end could have been increased a bit. Damn, I got the chills when the roars from Weird Alā€™s Jurassic Park surrounded me, I genuinely got scared.

What compared to gl2k? I have tried arya, best friend owns it I donā€™t due to price.

I am playing COD MW with SMSL m500, and windows DTS headphone x drivers and EQ ON. The surround positioning is unreal.

Yeah, compared to GL2Kā€™s would be fine.

Brainwavz xl suede plus some nuggets approved! Way comfortable. Also me and my small head still rocking this on smallest setting.

I tried the XL suedes and they do indeed work quite well, though I think I still prefer the stock leathers in both sound and comfort, if only slightly. My head is on the medium to large side of the spectrum and I find the fit to be fantastic. Iā€™m only 2 notches out though so I can definitely see how smaller heads wouldnā€™t play well with these big bois.

Iā€™ve created an official thread for this set as itā€™s a totally different beast :+1:

I really like these. Despite knowing what I was getting as far as the presentation goes, unboxing it all was a bit of a hype experience in itself. Everything feels so premium. I absolutely love the cable and the headphones themselves look and feel very high quality. Theyā€™re probably the most comfortable headphones Iā€™ve ever had on my head, the clamp is perfect and the cushion is all around superb.

Iā€™ve EQd the shit out of them and they take to it insanely well, I feel like you can more or less tune these however you want if you have the desire to do so.

Unfortunately one of the things that makes these stand out is also the thing that is keeping them from really meshing with me, and thatā€™s the sound stage. The sense of space is cool but at the same time some elements, vocals specifically, sound far more distant than I would prefer.

Iā€™m still in the burn-in process, both for the headphones and my brain, and of course more EQ experimentation may come into playā€¦ But right now itā€™s a ā€œlikeā€ not ā€œloveā€ situation, so Iā€™m not sure theyā€™ll be sticking around.

Every single bit of that sound they have is in the tuning paper and mesh on the grills. Just saying.

0% chance of me doing any physical mods.

One of the best and objective GL2000 reviews Iā€™ve seen. I agree with about 90% of what you said.
What you didnā€™t say:
Hybrid pads tame the 5k peak, but decrease soundstage and sub bass.
The overall timbre is fake sounding and incohesive, a lot of excellent technical abilities, but they donā€™t click together. Kinda reminds me of the Frankensteinā€™s monster - a mighty beast, sprang to life by the shock of 4 watts per channel (by my SMSL SP400), but stitched together roughly.

Real value: about $450, and to me, with the necessary Dekoni Nuggets and new XLR cable they cost me more than $700.

These are far too clampy on my head. Like the sound with the hybrid pads though.

stretch them around a huge ass box

interesting i thought it was more metal.

You must have a giant head

I do. Most of my headbands are max extended. This thing just bothering my jaw\temple in a way that my other headphones never have. May need pads and a headband. They do sound great to me though.
