šŸ”¶ GoldPlanar GL2000

It won’t cause damage but now you really need to be dust conscious I’ve talked about this on sendi Aiva thread that dust really fucks with the driver and make it sound like it’s just wrong / wonky a V E R Y gentle use of an air duster will keep the dust off the driver.

Is there a way to mod a comfort strap to these in anyway??

So I’m sitting here listening to my fully modded Phantoms after following the amazing guides on here and the other forum. They are plugged into M11 and BA300s mostly listening to jazz/laid back music. I’m a Sax player so appreciate good sound having played in big bands and covers bands

These GL2000’s have got my interest again given the hype and I’ve been looking at the other options too.

How much better will sound be vs fully modded Phantoms?

Working from home now open back is no longer an issue vs working in the office and I’m loving the open Planar sound.

A friend who also bought the Phantoms recently got some Kennerton Magni’s he loves, I still need to hear those. But I don’t know how sound could get better than the Phantoms. Please help.

Cheers

Mark

I haven’t heard modded phantoms but I honestly can’t imagine they’re better. The staging is absolutely astounding. I ruined iron man for myself last night because all I could hear was the sound of bass string bouncing off the studio wall 6 feet to the left and it’s so separated that it’s almost impossible to ignore.

Thanks for the response Pokrog!

I listened to Zoe’s sound test of the GU2000’s where he said about the annoyance of the Sax player breathing on the phantoms. I just couldn’t hear that on my setup! So I guess there is even more detail to be had from headphones!!! Wow!

I hear the gu2000’s are warm sounding too which is good to hear.

Lastly do you think m11 and Ba300s would run the gu2000’s well?

Cheers

I have a fully modded phantom as well, it was my favorite until GL2000 came along. It is definitely an upgrade over the phantom.

By that review it appears Daps will be fine to run the GL2000’s. I do t see many phantoms on eBay. Maybe a few will appear soon. AliExpress has a good price on the GL2000’s UK Ā£480.

That appears to be the case given all the reviews including the ones I am reading on the other forum. Guess I’ll buy the GL2000’s soon and eventually sell all the other headphones I have lying around. I need to sell some stuff!!! 3 kids makes it hard getting round to anything other than looking after them. Thankfully I have music during work hours

I think someone asked somewhere in this 1.5k thread  but anyone gamed with these? Not necessarily competitive, but just casual and emersive? @Falenkor ?? If I do end up getting mine from drop and listening to them I’ll be doing so with all different genres of music and definitely gaming. I’m thinking Cyberpunk for sure since it’s a superb audio produced game…among others. Hunt would be interesting too.

I’ve seen people mention gaming. Wouldn’t surround speakers be better for that? Many years ago I bought a dongle that faked 5.1 which worked really well with headphones. Would you use the same kind of thing now to get the surround experience?

I just got mine yesterday, and the headphone has good bass presence and no sibilance and imaging is good, not to mention large sound stage. I played some valorant on them. Of course need more extensive testing, but its tuning so far makes it a good choice for gaming

I’m talking PC gaming…and no a dongle to simulate 5.1 is just not the same imo. I used to use Soundblaster cards for years with the software EQ for surround. Then I got into hifi headphones on a Schiit Stack and listened in plain ole stereo. Changed my world with gaming sound. Can’t fake that sound.
Back to the speakers though - I much prefer headphones since I have a family and game at my desk when I can.

I mentioned gaming because with the soundstage I hear these having and imaging…it kinda seems like it would be a great gaming headphone as long as you can tolerate the heftiness of them physically on your head.

Eh? Oh… yea I have. Outside of the Weight in gaming they are pretty great. Imaging isn’t where I’d want for competitive but casual is quite immersive if you like that big open world feeling. The heft kills it for me personally and I rely on my aeons but I’d love to be able to tolerate these a bit more… hell for all I know I may buy them again later… maybe if dekoni releases a choice hybrid pad

After eq these currently are actually my favorite planar if that helps btw

Sorry I tagged you because your gaming reviews and advice are always damn good. Good to hear for immersive though.

Ah don’t be sorry lol. I’m half asleep over here is all… long day.

These headphones are one of those your either going to love to death or want to burn to the ground. Not a fan of the weight, the pad are trash imo, and the sound needs extensive eq to fix all the issues I see. If you can get past that they are definitely worthwhile. I just wouldn’t use them over say tygrs for competitive is all

Hence why I’m desperately trying to cancel my Drop order for them lol. I may end up liking them though since I don’t have anything to compare them to yet other than my TYGR’s and Zeus.

By the way - I know they are on your list - I think you would really dig the Zeus. I know I do. I just want to get my GL’s cancelled and figure out where else to put that 600 to…

These have been great for gaming so far. I don’t have a problem with the weight. But, if you do, you can always do some neck exercises. Great for casual gaming pretty good for competitive gaming.

Lol wouldn’t say neck issues just that heft gets to me personally after a while…

Agreed

I’ve been dieing to try Zeus man but haven’t found a way to do so outside of ordering from linsoul and potentially resell

Do you by chance own or tried Hifiman Arya’s? Would like to know your take on them.
