I would gladly sell my GL2K before I ever consider getting rid of the aeon 2 closed that I have.
I would also be worried about the quality control over at gold planar considering the possible issues. Maybe their quality control has gotten better but who knows? Also if you do get a bad one, you have to consider the return process.
Aeon 2 can be tuned with the filters and different pads so I feel there’s better value there on top of maybe better resolution from the Aeons compared to the GL2K. I find the Aeons more musical in my configuration but that might be because I dont enjoy how bright the GL2K can come off.
It really depends on what you want though.
I think the GL2K is what zeos likes because of his personal preferences. I bought the GL2k because I wanted to hear his preference in sound when it came to the GL2K. I enjoy it but I prefer a different sound signature and would say the Aeons could be more worth it because of the numerous ways to tune them.
Aeons are also more comfortable, lighter in weight, is much more portable, has great isolation, and has a really cool design imo.
What are you looking for in these headphones? the best out of the two or something else? If you want to ride the hype train, maybe its time to get on board? It might be risky though.
I’d personally consider a used pair of GL2K over a new pair if where you are has a used headphone market or community and can get them cheaper.
Hi
Thanks for responding, what i am looking for?
It all started after T50rp my first planer headphones, simply mind blown. Before that i was
into balance sound with exceptional for sound stage and sub-bass so i bought DT770 80 ohms and then K712 pros both i love, but i was clearly wrong. I have come across Z reviews reviewing bright headphones and i use to walk away, now i understand highs and imaging. So when Z review said (If tomorrow 90% of my headphone’s are gone i still won’t miss them because of Gl 2000) that’s pretty big statement, so i am curious, and then whole Aeon 2 noire happened from DMS and his list. I am also interested between HarmonicDyne Zeus and DT 990 premium 600 ohms or just the two endgame headphones (gl2k and noire).
It really depends what you prefer the most - detail resolution, soundstage, more bass, more treble? Then do you want an open back or more isolating closed back type?
My suggestion is to get something almost flawless (less disappointing) - if you are willing to pay for an Aeon Noire, then your other option could be a Focal Clear from the final big sale for almost the same money. These 2 should be superior in terms of technicalities, but ofc it depends what you prefer the most.
HD Zeus is an awesome option as well - again, less flaws, great value for the money as well. GL2000 are not great value for the money, they have mostly flaws, but I love their soundstage.
Hi thanks for responding
Focal Elegia looks good any other model in focal’s are very costly in my place. Looks like I am gona take break from planar headphones all togather very confused .
So to sum things up Zeus, elegia, dt 990 looking forward too.
Anyways thanks for responding
Hi
Both are kinda of same price range, maybe few bucks different not much thou. Honestly i can afford both of them I guess, just wanted to be responsible in terms of spending money . I think we all can wait untill Z reviews review Aeon 2 noire and then see how compares it with GL2k.
Honestly, I think the aeons are technically better than the gl2k.
But the gl2k has a bigger sound stage. GL2K also presents sound compressed according to z and dms so that’s different.
But if they are around the same price, I’d say aeon 2, much more worth it with great detail, resolution, soundstage for a closed back, comfort isolation and good imaging. I think the gl2k wins out on having it’s special presentation of sound and soundstage.
I had the same issue for the first 3 to 4 days, and then the headache disappeared. It’s as if your brain needs to burn in (adjust) to the new headphones. I am a believer that your headphones (or speakers) and your brain need burn in before everything comes together. I never heard planars before so for me I was blasted with more details and a bigger soundstage/image, it’s as if my brain was being overwhelmed with too much musical information. After 4 days no more headaches and now I love the GL2000. The Singxer SA-1 amp pairs extremely well and brings them to life with the balanced connection, had Asgard 2 (not balanced) before which was not as warm and the highs were too sharp. These headphones need power to sound their best. Balanced connection is a must with at least 2 watts of power as the company suggests.
Just did the mod. Sounds a bit more realistic now, definitely more soundstage. No perceived treble increase so far. Seems to be harder to drive now tho (still not sure because I have to reinstall hiby app because it started crashing).
I have heard 3 copies of these, all sounded the same so I am not sure there is too much of a variance… then again zeos’s review had the original circular pads and all the ones I tried had that D shaped pad so perhaps there was some changes there? If so that is quite ridiculous and the fact they silently changed parts of this headphone mid purchase, and some people waited like months on drop, is absolutely shady… needless to say I will be hesitant on ever buying a single thing from the company again. On a side note though, I fully encourage more creations like harmonicdyne zeus over there lol
Regardless, I still don’t believe its worth their asking price as I don’t find it better than a sundara more of a sidegrade… yet double the price point. It is a good headphone… just not $600 good, least not imo
because zeos does not want to look bad. he received a quite large backlash for “shilling” like usual and therefore it must be because he got a god pair and everyone else got bad ones. i think we are waiting for people to forget. i mean hes posted a review with the words “this is the best ___” like 4 times this week so dont know why he cares about the gl2k fiasco but he seems to. watch zeos for fun and get your actual advice from people who actually care about sound. and compare A/B , crinacle , headphone show people. not someone who says “i dont even read the price or info before reviewing” thats supposed to sound profound and impressive but its just lazy and leads to wildly misleading information. it is fun to watch in the same way watching your drunk friend make up different pick up lines for women at the bar. its only interesting the first few times and its pure fantasy.
