eh, idk about that. Music is art, but it isnt devoid of science (music theory is flat out science) and reproducing it from a digital source would (idealy) be pure science (if we had complete transparency over how the whole system worked including our ears)
yeah get that but itās a bit off topic so maybe we should start a new topic
hahaha. Very true.
Done the thread lol
From what I know itās about equal, you need to know basic theories and practices when creating and working on music, but just doing everything by the book isnāt going to get you too far either imo, so itās a pretty clear mixture of art and science
oh, 100% music mastering is an art. What I meant was if we have a better understanding of āthis is the science behind how to create sound stage and effect imagingā then artists and engineers have a far more flushed out bag of tricks to play with and the best way to get to that point is to focus on how the reproduction happens, what is audiable, what is not, and how every minutia efffects sound
Went down sound engineer rabbit hole through āproduce like a proā youtube. Dont know if its an sound mixers inside joke but they go out to the car to judge if the mix is ready to submit to clients the likes of christina aguilera.
Since I deal with radio ads and stuff like that I do that all the time, I always check to see how things sound on a car stereo as thatās a very valuable place to see how things sound depending on what you are producing. That is a very real thing to do
The dude that mixed christina aguilera āstrippedā album if i can remember uses floorstanders and dual subs for playback. Capitol records uses PMC. Interesting stuff.
PMC gang lol
Auratone FTW.
Bit off topic, but I love when folks are surprised to learn that many mixers actually test mixes on a closed, mid-range speaker in mono. How else would you know your music sounds good on a cheap system?
If you can make it sound good on a sound cube, it will sound good on everything else lol
Does ASR know YouTube doesnāt measure well?
AFAIK the people in ASR love the videos. So I donāt what to tell you
i am surprise amirm isnāt just a robot trying to sell topping products to us (topping products probably can sound good and all that stuff but miniscule SINAD rates mean nothing because im pretty sure the human ear wont noticeā¦ critics including those who doubt the expensive audiophile shit like home studio basics will tell you the dragonfly red and mojo sound great even though asr would say they are not goodā¦ its almost like humans arenāt robots)
Iāve repād him before but wanted to do it again as his channel doesnāt get enough kudos (IMO). Heās got both his own channel and review/news site. Hereās an example of a product that Iām neither demanding nor in the market for yet both his video and written article provided lots of value to inform one of the product almost completely.
Some may prefer DMSā short take styles of 5 min reviews but I prefer Sanduās at ~15min. It doesnāt have the comedic ramblings of a zeos but itās just primarily focused on the product.
Thought I would give Tyler a shout out as well! Heās a co-host of the āheadphone showā with resolve but also have his own channel:
Seems like a good guy and gives honest takesā¦ He can ramble at time and his videos are ālong formā but the amount of effort he makes to provide details and answer questions on the live chat is really next tier. Heās probably the opposite of DMS in terms of his format.
letās add iiWi Reviews to this list. His channel is still relatively small, but i hope it will grow soon because i really, really like him. It really doesnāt matter at all, that heās not a native english speaker - if anything, his accent is charming. But his desciptions, or much more verbal presentations of sound-characteristics are really something else. I.e.
He just takes more care then others and seems like a legit nice, musician/metalhead kind of guy. 10/10, would drink some beers with him.
