Again, if I didn’t mention that my video wasn’t specifically targeting him, then more people would misunderstand and try to make it a “Crinacle versus Dankpods” situation which I want to avoid. And you have to understand that Dankpods is extremely prolific so his fanbase is literally everywhere on YouTube. Misunderstandings can and will happen, especially when talking about a product that he famously endorses.
If I mention and clarify at the start, sure I draw a little more attention to him but at least my intentions were made clear from the very beginning.
To me, option two is the better option. People forget that option one is the alternative.
Fair enough, didn’t think about it that way (although I have to wonder if that would really be the case, but it’s likely not worthwhile testing that lol)
i feel like more people would have taken it as a dig at dankpods if it wasn’t addressed than if it was, especially youtube audiences which tend to be more speculatory and generally latch onto things they shouldn’t, dankpods is also the biggest “audiophile” youtuber right now so it’s likely people that watch crin also know who dankpods is and know he’s a big fan of meze products and without the warning i can totally see weirdos on forums (:)) running away with it
It’s a stretch to call Dankpods an “audiophile.” Most of the stuff he reviews is consumer-grade gear, such as about 25 vids about the ancient Apple iPod.
Dank has reviewed a few pairs of Grados, Meze Empreyan and Elite, and Nuraphones. That’s hardly a murderer’s row of audiophilia. He’s closer to Marques Brownlee than to an audiophile.
yeah that’s why i put audiophile in marks, i wouldn’t classify him as one either, but there isn’t really a term for “individual who knows a decent amount about audio equipment, but isn’t too invested, but does make content related to audio equipment but focuses on entertainment rather than education”
still like his content and it’s nice to see audio enthusiasm growing
What studio monitors are the mixers playing back the recording. The argument for flat speakers is to hear whats on the recording good or bad, no ? So if the artist signed off on the mix from their phone and it sounds like shit on a your flat speaker thats what the flat speaker person wants to hear for better or worse. If you got a non-flat speaker that plays anything the way you like, good on you. Evrybody happy ?
Getting back to the artist and mixer, the artist which approves the release by what they heard on the phone or in the car, it is safe to say the artist only cares about the loudness, so mixer turns up the levels and the were off to the races in the loudness war.
The only recourse for the listener to obtain good recordings is to sift through the audio forums for community feedback by informed listeners and working sound engineers, one would suspect.
Listening to sound mixers youtubes, some of them agree that mixing in ATMOS strikes another death blow to terrible mixed recordings. So for me its a great time in audio.
A tier list by Resolve! DIG it, even if it’s not about specific models.
Resolve comes the closest to the retired legend Tyll Hertsens in the headphone reviewer space. Analytical, smart, measured and not melodramatic, self-effacing, dedicated to the community.
I find it absurd to think that it was Dankpods who put Meze on the map.
Meze’s target audience = passionate audiophiles, lovers of luxury, mostly experienced people with a wallet that can keep up
Dankpods certainly isn’t that. Can certainly imagine a handful of people being influenced to buy Meze’s Empyrean after watching his vid, but no way in hell can I imagine a large number of people being influenced by such a vid.
I mean, no hate towards Dankpods, but it seems like he is just a guy who likes to film stuff, and is particularly happy when he receives something expensive that he hasn’t experienced before. He makes entertaining videos, and that’s quite apparent by his views and subs.
It’s pretty easy to distinguish the “entertainers” from the “educators” on YouTube. I prefer a mix but will always lean toward the latter. I’ll take an “entertaining educator” over an “educating entertainer” every time.
Idk, whenever it comes to a purposeful purchase, I take research very seriously. Whenever this research is taking place, I most often find myself browsing through forums. However, I browse trough just about everything: forums, review websites, YouTube.
Same. The amount of research I do over a headphone/gear purchase of $500 or less is just stupid. We’re talking hours, often double-digit hours.
It’s a sickness. Can’t help it; I’m just a thorough mofo. Plus I learn a lot through research at forums like this and from knowledgeable reviewers on YouTube.
I feel the same way - I am constantly on the lookout for reviews. But it pays off - I’ve been happy with all of my purchases so far, which means money and time well spent
I’ll even add to that: when searching info about an iem, I often get sidetracked by other iems that are compared with the 1st one, and collect data on them too. Eventually I go back to focus on the 1st one because I “find” some things that throw me off from the other sets.
I watch hours of yt videos about iems… And don’t even recall what was said about the reviewed iem. I have to literally take notes on what I think is important, to sum things up, and sometimes make a comparative chart to decide which one wil be better for me.
So the last 11.11/black Friday was a painful period for me, with something like 20 iems surveyed.
All that to end up with 1 set that costs 40$ that I didn’t like at all at first…
