Also definetly a BIG FAT NOOOOOOOOOOOO lol. Everyone has had terrible experience with moon audio! Even very recently with @Zaphain! They seem to be terrible
Good to know. I just saw they sell some Grado models with that option.
As for the Hemps fitting in to your collection, they are pretty unique, even for a Grado. Like I said, if you can afford it without issue and are ok with selling it if you donāt like it, you should try them. Doubly so if it would be your first Grado. The Hemps are a great introduction to the brand imo since they are a bit less bright and a bit more bassy than something like the RS2e or the prestige series.
THAT is the exact reason that I was attracted to them. Iāve never had a grado. And itās not cheap enough where it probably wouldnāt be fun and competitive with some stuff but not too expensive where itās hard to afford.
What happened?
He bought a headphone that they claimed to have in stock and they didnāt update the site until after that they wouldnāt get them back in stock until the 14th od last month. They still donāt have them in stock. Also only offered a used one that they had in open box and take st least two weeks to message back
Iāll probably buy it eventually cuz of u lol
I bought a TH900mk2 limited pearl white version in December, and back then it was marked as in-stock. After I waited a bit I asked what was going on with it since, you know, they offer free 2 day shipping and itās like, āwhere is it?ā. Came back with telling me they were waiting for a new shipment of them and to message them back if I wanted an open box or to keep my order, putting the impetus on me to respond with whether I still wanted to keep my order or not. Also after having gotten back to me, they changed the page to now say, āpre-orderā instead of in-stock with an expected date of January 14th. It took them a couple weeks to respond to me saying Iād still like to keep my order, and itās also now in the middle of February, no further update on whatās going on, page still says expecting on January 14th. Iām wary of contacting them again for news since it takes so damn long to get in touch with them.
Long saga! Actually ended up getting Grado GH4 which I liked in many ways better. They werent as good for rock/metal/industrial but amazing with everything else. Ended up gifting them to my father in law though as the GH4 are perfect for older people with hearing loss, he loves them. Now I find myself Grado-less!
Grados in general are really underrated, the main sonic "flaw " is just that they all have too much 2k energy, but because its a wide elevation its super easy to correct with EQ and after that they sound really natural.
Here in Japan the Hemp is selling used for about 350 bucks or so, I will very likely pick one up again as I do miss it.I think the Hemps (and other GRados for that matter) main flaw is just comfort, really wish they could come up with a way to keep the sound with better earpads. None of the other earpads sound as good as the stock flat pads though.
I wish I had the money to burn on some GH2, GH4, RS1e, RS2e, PS500e, SR325e, pretty much the whole sub $1000 non-plastic stable. The GH4 specifically look really great to me. I love the pale wood with zebra stripe grain. The ones Iām most curious about though are the RS1/2e. Iāve heard some very good and some very bad things about the RS1e and everyone seems to love the RS2e.
I have the RS2e and the SR325e, the RS2e are my go to Grado headphones if want to listen to them. If the rest of the limited edition wooden Grados sound like that then I understand why they are popular.
The SR325e are a bit fatiguing after a while. They are good in short bursts.
From what Iāve seen on head-fi, the GH2 and GH4 are both comparable to the RS2e. I would gladly get them if I found them for a good price (and had the spare cash) but Iāll most likely end up getting an RS2e out of those three since I wonāt HAVE TO look for it used.
The ones I really have my eye on are the RS1e and the PS500e since they seem to be a bit more unique in the Grado line up. The RS2e is a great example of the stereotypical āGrado soundā, but so are the GH2 and GH4. From what I can tell, nothing else in the line up sounds like the RS1e or PS500e.
But this is all just talk. Hopefully once retail stores are more widely open and the covid is no longer such a problem (and I have the money) Iāll be able to try all these out before I buy one.
I havenāt heard the RS1e so canāt offer anything first-hand about it; from what I have read (on head-fi mostly) I am under the impression that the āeā version is less desirable for the RS1 than the previous iterations, whether they be āiā or prior to that.
people apparently think the RS2e is a great RS2 version, on the other hand.
Iāve also seen those kinds of opinions, but Iāve also seen people like that guy who has a million Grados say he actually really likes them. Like I said, I would love to try out a lot if the Grado line at a dealer whenever that is possible again.
Thereās one on head-fi for $320 obo.
Iāll let you tell me eventually. I really like my own RS1 ā¦ from the old days before they had suffix letters, lol. And indeed it is different from other Grados Iāve heard. A larger, more lush, experience; preferred for some things, or some moods even, and not others, imo.
FUUUUUCK even Motorhead sounds great with these and Motorhead is recorded like shit. Why do people turn their noses up at Grados again?
I have the PS500e, they are excellent. They remind me or the HD650 with better quality bass. Iām looking to possibly go for the Hemp or RS1e.
I havent tried the RS1e yet but I actually did get the Grado White which uses the same or very similar 50mm driver as the RS1e and I was really disappointed by it. The Grado White had the worst bass of any headphone I have ever tried, it started rolling off hard at 80hz and was basically nonexistant by 50hz. Also had a shit ton of upper bass which masked the pathetic deep/subbass output even more. Its so bass light that it actually made everything sound outright wrong due to the lower fundamentals of instruments being sucked out. With EQ I could get it to beā¦passable, but even with a 10db bass boost there was almost nothing happening below about 40hz. Based on that experience I can see why many dont care for the 50mm Grados. The GH4 was in every way better for me (and cheaper). Only thing the white had going for it was the big wide soundstage due to it using the G pads and having the larger drivers/housing.
The GH4 had pretty solid fun bass with some boost, was bass lighter than the Hemp out of the box due to it using the L pads rather than the flat pads, but took eq like a champ. Obviously not a subbass champ and not the cleanest bass but it had some kind of wood resonance going on that was lots of fun to listen to. Gave it a very pleasant warm tone. GH4 did a better job than the Hemp in the āemotional engagement categoryā though hemp is more fun. I actually cried listening to the recent Chrono Cross live album with the GH4 off Asgard 3, me crying to music is a enormously rare occurrence! There were no tears with the Hemp at any point, just fun!
I still havent heard a RS2e yet though I really wanted to compare it to the GH4. Pretty sure they are extremely similar to each other with the main difference being the wood itself. My guess is that the GH4 also has a bit better sense of depth to it than the RS2e because the housing is a bit larger.
Does Hfiguides have a sell/trade forum? Iām considering trading my PS500E for a RS1E or Hemp.
