As far as going balanced goes, youâll see a slight increase in power output from the amp over single-ended, at this level any other benefits are debatable. The other thing to consider is that your Eris cable has the 4.4 balanced plug, so you wonât need an adapter if your amp has the 4.4 balanced jack. Not a huge deal, saves you about $25 on the adapter, and surely someone will tell you that it hurts the sound⊠probably doesnât, but someone will inevitably say it.
For Eris, I actually run it totally flat. Only thing Iâve done with my Eris is install the Geekria tuning pads that dull the treble peaks ever so slightly, as I am very treble sensitive.
Fiio K11 might actually be a fantastic choice. I have not tried it, but reviews have been good. Believe it also has console support. Itâs a fairly new product. Maybe go for that.
Anyone Near Washington DC Next Weekend I will be showing off ERIS, MAGIA and an upcoming Headphone Amplifier Collab at Capitol Audiofest.
There is a tiny headphone section there in a back hallway. If I am not there Eris surely will be. Come have a listen, send a friend and enjoy the best 2 Channel show on the East Coast.
I have both. The Eris is more comfortable overall, has more bass, and sounds âbigger,â i e. soundstage width and height. The FT1 is a lot of fun, too; a great all-arounder, with a more neutral tuning compared to the Eris. I reach for the Eris more, honestly - the impact they have and that big sound are addictive, ha ha. I think it will largely come down to the music youâre listening to. Laid back tunes are suited well for the FT1s as theyâre more polite. For electronic/alternative/metal, and even big orchestral stuff Iâd go with the Eris. Gimme that violence!
Appreciate the information brother. Really been wanting to get a decent wired set and these two are the ones that come up pretty often, as well as the Cambridge which can be used wired and wireless.
I listen to a lot of metal style music so a lot of fast drums and cymbals which on some iems can sound very congested or sharp.
Would you say the Eris and fiio are difficult to drive?
Not at all although Eris are different on different amplifiers.
Here a supercut of every reaction to Eris in socal. None were skipped.
I might have did a few videos on this lol
My takeaways about the entire Eris experience is that there are people chasing perfect, and people who are open to fun.
Resolve, DMS, Golden are chasing the science of headphones. This is completely fine and an acceptable pursuit, to delve further into the idea of what is the perfect sounding headphones. But at the end of day people are human, and sometimes humans like not perfect things.
The Harmonicdyne X Zreviews Eris is a toy and it should be played with. Its affordable like a toy, its made of plastic so you donât feel bad tossing it around like a toy (by no means does it feel cheap though) and it sound enhances your creativity and imagination like a toy.
I spend a lot of time speaking to enthusiasts face to face, I work for a headphone company. They ship me around the country and when I talk to people about the Eris and I give them one to try, they understand immediately. Outside of the internet bubble, Eris is received well by the people who actually physically try it, not just people referencing measurements and writing it off.
At CanJam Dallas this past weekend the group of enthusiasts I hung with had over a hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment in the house they rented. They owned an Eris, just as they own Audeze CRBN, Meze Elite and a bunch of other high end expensive headphones.
They praised the Eris, just as they praised other more expensive headphones. Its because Eris is a challenge, its a challenge in the sense that they like to find the right source to match it too.
I was handed an Eris, It was put on a Zen stack. XBass was cranked on and I spent what felt like an hour just enjoying my music. It was an enlightening experience. The following day I was taken to a Schiit Magnius stack, they cranked the bass shelf on the Lokius and I just understood why Eris is fun.
Zeos understands the true appeal of Eris because he has the equipment to experiment with it.
The Eris is an affordable toy to be played with, something that makes the hobby fun again. Go out and grab one just for the heck of it.
I wish Iâd seen one at CanJam Dallas. I wanted to try it out. I ended up picking up the Dekoni Blue from Dekoni, and I think it is a fun Bass headphone.
I understand what you mean about having the right equipment. My wife didnât really like them when she listened to them in the hotel in Dallas. I was playing them on my DAP.
When we got home, I played them on a few of my amps. With good power and the right song, the bass is fast, impactful, and fun. You canât help but get into the music.
I also bought the Meze 109 Pro and Alba at Canjam, and while people would consider the 109 to be a much better headphone, I can enjoy the Dekoni Blue just as much as the 109 Pro. Iâm not saying the Dekoni Blue is technically better, just that itâs different, fun, and enjoyable in a different way.
So I can understand what youâre saying.
I am legit loving my Eris. It has joined my rotation of Ether C Flow 1.1 and Arya Stealth. I do not really understand the negative reviews for it; chuck it up to personal preference, I guess.
But I do prefer the sound of planars, and Iâm curious if anyone can recommend a planar that has a similar or at least somewhat similar sound signature and characteristics of the Eris?
I made that thumbnail and Iâm proud of how poopy it looks!
