Hey guys, It’s always hard to audition Hi-Fi gear, even more so headphones. I travel a bit for work and seek out HiFi and Vintage HiFi shops to visit. In my travels i managed to ONLY find 1 place so far that carried headphones. It would be cool if people posted places local to them on this thread, across the world, gives folks a chance to consolidate info in one place.
I’ll start with
USA, Atlanta, Geogia, very high-end equipment and the ONLY selection of headphones and head-amps i have found to date. Atlanta Hifibuys https://hifibuys.com/2019/07/20/belly-up-to-the-headphone-bar/
USA, Phoenix, Arizona, extensive selection of exotic stereo tube amplifiers, pre-amps, record players, speakers and accessories; NO Headphone items. Arizona HiFi. Go visit my buddies Glen and Bill.
USA, Tulsa, Oklahoma, MOST AWESOME vintage and repair shop EVER, go visit Dave! Speakerworks, No headphones, but an extensive shop full of every other vintage goody you can dream of!
Please post up any hidden gems or other storefronts we can touch and test cool hifi gear, especially headphones, anywhere in the world they can be found, we have an eclectic mix of members from all over the place.
Germany, MD-Sound
They got a rather broad selection and sell Emotiva gear. So if you live in Germany and do not want to deal with import Tax and such, order via them.
Will likely never go to their store, will probably try to order via them if Thomann fails me
Germany, Thomann
When you are looking for instruments, PA-equipment, lighting or setting up a studio, they got you covered. They also have an extensive range of headphones and headphone amps.
Their service is awesome!
Search out and let us know if there is anywhere in Phoenix i may have missed that has headphones and associated equipment.
There were 2 more HiFi stores in Phoenix, 1 was closed when i got there and another high-end shop that unfortunately i only managed to get about 40 minutes in before they too closed up.
If you ever find yourself in Vancouver, BC there is a place called the Headphone Bar. I have never been there, but I have bought headphones from them and they seem to have a pretty good selection. I just bought a demo set of Fostex TH-610’s from them.
There are also a few good shops in Toronto, if you find yourself there on business.
x2 for Headphone Bar, I know the owner Travis and he is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable people I have ever met in this hobby.
I find myself walking in there prepared to pay full retail price and he always finds a way to combo a deal or even just randomly take discounts without asking.
Every single thing on the website is available to demo, no questions asked (and usually there are even more items in-store that are not listed).
I checked that site and saw several brands I did not recognize. I am much more comfortable with ordering from Shenzhen Audio. If you can wait for sales, the prices are very good. Also quick shipping and the paperwork is great for those importing. Really nice products too.
Curious to hear what you think. Everything I read about them talked about them being a little too hot or bright. I am very happy with the Sundara’s, but there is a little bit of sparkle up top though.
Depends what kind of amp your using though, I suppose.
I never knew Moon Audio was in NC. I guess I just assumed California.
Personally, I’m a big fan of Andrew at Bloom Audio here in New Jersey. He’s relatively new, but he has always done right by me and has most of the brands I’d be interested in.
