Hey there,
i am looking for easy to drive headphones for my nephews which they can use with their mp3 players while drumming (propper drumkit)
Criteria would be something affordable and also as lightweight as possible.
I was thinking about KP30i but as those are on-ear headphones i don´t know if they are suitable for drumming
Any input and recs much appreciated!
I would rather see them with in ears that would give them some hearing protection. On-ears won’t do that unless you’re talking an electronic kit.
Are they listening to music while they drum?
Yes they listen and play along to the songs they practice.
Why i did not think of IEMs i have no idea, they use some cheap kids headphones for it atm
Maybe sth with noise canceling would be nice!? They would still hear the drumming
I only see 2 ways if you want to protect their hearing at the same time. Either iems with particularly good passive isolation (BA only iems, since they tend to be ventless) or maybe if you can use bluetooth and then you can use ANC iems or ANC closed back headphones.
My sis just told me they don’t want to use IEMs, gotta respect that, so headphones it is
Problem i see with (closed back) headphones would be that you need to find one with relatively strong clamp force otherwise i can see them being annoying when they are not still on the head.
I’d go for something like Sony MDR 7506 - cheap, relieble ,fairly durable and overall pretty neutal , though i would highly suggest getting them better pads

Those have like zero isolation not really recommended for something as loud as drumming.
Thanks for the rec, will Look into them
They use super cheap kids headphones that came with their child Tablets and it also does the trick so far
I mean i want to get them sth decent but anything is an upgrade to what they have now
They are sth arround 10 and 11 by they way i don’t even know for sure, best uncle haha
Its best that they learn about protecting their hearing at that young age.
If you want something cheap i believe the akg k361 should be around that price and is a closed back at least. Fiio FT1 is also very popular but more expensive.

Agreed but that’s fairly easly fixed if pad swap them
Something like Yaxi pads or some other more isolating pads should do the trick.
you want over ear pads. But when you are doing that you are changing the fr a ton anyway so would just be better to get an over ear from the start.
Dont know about you, but the MDR 7506 for me were over ear , notr a large one but still over ear not on ear
I have the CD900st which is the same shape and that thing is basically just on ear and with almost zero isolation.
I suggest you look at the Etymotic iems. Great isolation to protect young ears, super light, and good sound.
Mike
Thanks für the suggestion but turned out they don’t want to use IEMs
Maybe its the pads i got cause its over ear for me, a very narrow over ear, but still over ear. But whatever
Behringer DH100
They use them a lot here as a budget option. But take this with a pinch of salt. Otherwise, the uncle should teach them to use IEM.

Thanks that Looks like a good and affordable Option.
Also nice that its available at music Store Thomann, their main store is ~1.5hrs from here…i will make this a Trip with the Boys and then we can test a few different models
I’ll try to convince them of IEMs for music listening
