I’ll be honest, The RNHP was the most exciting thing for me this year aside from the first time I listened to the Elex. And I know a lot of that is expectations versus reality… Like I expect something from a headphone upgrade and I was not expecting much of anything from a different amp after the THX. It was one of those… “I have to re-evaluate my thinking entirely now…” type of things.

If you plan on having multiple headphones yeah a good DAC and AMP is necessary especially for those with alot of ohms, a Magni 3 and Modi would suffice for pretty much any headphone, another good cheap one is the Fiio K5 Pro (Dac & Amp)

Eh, I would avoid the schiit, but the k5 pro is pretty great
IMO… it’s also finding the right ‘synergy’ for things too. You may find a headphone you love and is close to perfect and some amp experimentation could push it even further. But I do agree… I think finding the right headphone/s is probably a bit more important.
Why avoid Schiit, they seem to make good quality products and for a good price as well
I think it would actually be adequate, but later on perhaps you could get a better amp/dac
The magni 3 has a peaky and unrefined house sound along with dynamic compression, and the modi does as well. Newer schiit products like the Asgard 3 sound really good imo and don’t suffer from the aforementioned issues. They recently released their heresy and 3+ which are big improvements imo, but their modi still suffers from issues so the stack doesn’t sound the best
Thnx guys, I got some thinking to do. Honestly I am now leaning toward focusing on the dac/amp. The fiio btr3 is good enough for dac but I do need more power to not be limited. But like the kid I am, maybe I’ll just buy a new toy
Is the jump to 150 for the k5 pro worth it over the mark II? Price wise
I think if you are willing to sacrifice portability then yeah for sure, it’s a real step up imo (and also 880 600ohms can become a possibility lol)

Haha damn, tempting indeed. But it’s not a portable to walk with using it which I’m cool with. But let’s say I wanna show it off, I can take it to a friend’s house and plug it to a wall socket quickly and use it off my phone no?
Ehhhh, I think the xd05 would be a better choice then imo (but back down to 880 250 ohm), as personally I think it checks all the boxes you would want for the price

who is basically the only reviewer I have looked into for the btr5. I would persoanall wait a week or so for more reviews to pop out.
it should have more power and sound significantly beter than the q1 mk 2. but the q1 mk 2 has some features I personally enjoy the the btr5 doesn’t. mainly aesthetic, adnd the knob and bass boost.

I do like a knob, love it on my speaker amp. And yeah since it’s already not as exciting to buy a am/dac I think I’ll wait it out. If I can’t wait I’m buying a headphone lol
