BTW! i ended up somehow managing to get Two headphones (58x,4xx) AND an amp (Liquid Spark) and it is pretty crazy the difference it makes in sound for both headphones. thanks for helping me also get more excited about the amp
I think the 58x is the best all rounder. If you game non competitively, the Fidelio X2 are good but the treble can be grainy. The he4xx I really disliked as they were bass lite and bright…too much for my liking. Still great cans, just not my cup of coffee (fuck tea, lol).
Closed back, the AKG K371 are a safe choice.
Also the 58x is more easily powered with typically better build so there’s that
yeah i getcha, i like and respect the 4xx alot. but personally prefered the 58x, i think to call them a great all rounder is pretty accurate. Very unoffensive sound signature, very smooth and full of soul. Great smooth bass that can become punchier with the right amp, surpsisingly detailed highs and great mids. I actually liked the bass on the 4xx tbh, it sounds VERY explosive. But ultimately prefer the bass of the 58x too. just a different flavor
typically better build, i assume you mean less quality control issues? because honestly the 4xx feels like a different level to me buildwise. They feel much nice, look nicer too and feel sturdy. much more than the flimsy 58x.
Some people prefer the build and comfort over 4xx lol, but you are right about the quality control aspect for sure
Ur right when u say it can be powered sufficiently well without a proper amp. But damn I plug it into the liquid spark everytime I get the chance. Honestly the liquid spark and 58x as a combo are my babies
so the build thing is actually surpsing. can’t believe that people actually prefer it’s build. Comfort obviously for me was a huge negative, so i was surprised to watch reviews and EVERYONE said it was more comfortable than the 4xx! i thought they were smocking crack, but it seems to be an almost universal opinion
i would pay big money for the 58x sound inside the 4xx body
Yeah the 58x scales really well with the amp you use. My first impressions with the 58x was not stellar as I first had them on an incapable amp. They had grown on me after moving up the Amp chain.
Is that a red matryushka? It’s red, so it is automatically faster.
i could see that, tbh i had very positive impressions since the beginning. but i realized recently that i would always power them with the v30 so it makes sense that i liked them since the beginning. The liquid spark definetly gives them an edge so at home i like having it connected for the extra oomph in the bass and general bigger sound
lol, i don’t know. think it’s some japanese doll actually. just got it when i was in LA last year since it was cute.
It’s an amp performance enhancer, lol.
haha, there you go. don’t tell everyone about it or i will run out of that secret sauce
I did a google image search. I guess its a Daruma doll. I originally thought was from a Miyazaki film, but if that sonically improves your sound and bass slam and speed. I’m going to consider one.
oh nice, now i know it’s name! thnx. and it was fairly cheap, not a bad snake oil to consider. some might say the bass slam increasing is due to the amplifier, but i beg to differ
What’s wrong with Schiit stuff? I for one would rather support American companies.
I don’t think their older stuff is up to par, the asgard 3 and heresy are pretty sweet now, but I still wouldn’t buy any of their higher end amps until they get update. And the modi 3 isn’t the best either, neither is the fulla. Their higher end multibits are pretty good though. I’m not against supporting an american company, but I personally would wait until they update more of their lineup before I purchase from them
also there are other american companies like jds labs and geshelli labs that can be supported as well.
