Impressions on the Heddphones so far? Iā€™m looking at this exact stack in the future with the exception possibly of the DAC

Iā€™ve only had an hour with them so far, and I was tired so not much in the way of impressions. Nothing obvious stuck out to my on first listen, which is usually a good sign. Flaws are usually the first thing I notice. I will say that fit was concerning. My noggin is normal/large, and it seemed to fit akwardly. But Iā€™ll have more to say about this after a longer session.

I got more bass by breaking the seal.

Just saw the Resolve Reviews and the Guttenberg review and this sounds like a great headphone to have. The price has dropped a 100$ to 1899$ Mon said it had some issues. Do iā€™m not sure

@Andrew_Davis said he was gonna give his thoughts after a while listening to it. Are you ready yet Andrew?

Here is Crinā€™s review of the same:

Oh, thanks for the reminder.

I donā€™t have enough time with them, or experience to give a full, Resolve style review. But I will say that they measure up in terms of detail. They were the most detailed set Iā€™ve ever heard. Freq response is very Arya similar, which is to say neutral-to-bright. Planar like bass extension, and plenty of that planar ā€œthumpā€ that people describe. Thereā€™s appropriate dynamics and great layering, detail, seperation, etc. To listen to? Technically impressive, well balanced and enjoyable.

The issue for me was fitment, but not weight. Other heavy cans were not uncomfortable for me. But with these the pads rested on my head where the jaw muscle connects with my skull and caused some discomfort. I couldnā€™t enjoy more than about 20 or 30 minutes.

Also, the driver crinkle was pretty strong. Iā€™ve experienced it before, but this was worse. Every time I put them on or took them off it was lound. Not a problem in and of itself, at all. But for me, the earcup rested right on my jaw joint, so often when I just swallowed or ground my jaw I could hear faint driver crinkle. Ive not heard other people complain of this issue, so maybe by head shape is sub-optimal for these cans.

So overallā€¦If your head shape works for the design then itā€™s an awesome set of headphones that punches well above itā€™s price.

Are you keeping them, or were the issues strong enough to warrant a return?

I couldnā€™t keep them. If they didnā€™t hurt my head I would have found a way to manage the driver crinkle. I was surprised, because other heavy headphones like Audeze havenā€™t been an issue at all.

Maybe I have an unusually shaped head?

Imo itā€™s all about how you distribute that weight on the head. The heddphone wasnā€™t the most comfortable for me either, but I could tolerate it for around 4-5 hours. Also the pair I tried actually didnā€™t have that bad of driver crinkle but perhaps since Iā€™m also used to estats my threshold of how bad I might perceive it could be higher

But I would agree that stuff like the audeze is more comfortable for sure

They have a new revision out to address the headband. One of the big complaints was that it just barely extended far enough to not sit on ear for a lot of people. If it was going all the way to your jawline @Andrew_Davis, then you seem to be in the minority of what Iā€™ve seen.

Maybe your head, is, in fact, unusual

This thread is no longer to discuss the heddphone, it is now to discuss the mysteries of @Andrew_Davis head shape

I think Andrew received the revised headband, if Iā€™m remembering correctly.

I did receive the revision. The headband extended far enough, it was where the weight was distributed that caused discomfort

To be clear, the crinkle was caused by movement from where my jawbone connects to my skull front of my ear, not the actual jawbone. Right here:

Probably a half inch in either direction and it wouldnā€™t have been an issue. Bad luck. Or maybe it is a weird shaped head after all.

When I did 23 & Me I discovered I have 2% Neanderthal DNA. Maybe thatā€™s it?

Interesting side note. Almost everyone has Neanderthal and Denisovian DNA in them

Now we got skulls in hifiguides. check it out other forums. but your stuff dont get this scary.

Have you heard the Focal Utopia, Verite or the Abyss 1266? If so how would you compare the detail retreval? This is where iā€™m at right now. My next headphone is gonna be one of these. i can find the Utopia or Verite used.

Those are on my list, too. And I havenā€™t heard them. Arya and Clear is as TOTL as Iā€™ve gotten.

Thereā€™s an open box utopia on ebay for 2200 right now, and ZMF has a b stock LTD Pheasantwood Verite right now, if youā€™re interested.
