So I’m trying to decide between the SHP9500 and hd58x jubilee for competitive gaming but if y’all have any other suggestions I’m all ears my budget is $200. Thanks.
Well i know the 58x is better for music. but its a bit vieled. doesnt gaming require clear treble? The shp9500 have almost no clamp for me. and my head is is fairy good size. Theres a website with pretty good lists for headhones. they got one for gaming:
I really like the shp9500 for casual gaming.
They can be used for hours with ease and no pressure on ears / head.
At least in BF they work well with foot steps and can easy tell where the bad guy is coming and can act to that. Nice for other games as well.
Well, is this mainly only for comp gaming?
Yes pretty much
Alright thanks
Perhaps consider something like the ad700x or ad900x if you just want competitive performance if you can find one for a good price. If you could squeeze in an amp, something like a dt880 or 990 is pretty solid
I’ll go check it out
What amp should I pick up
You could grab something like a monolith liquid spark or schiit magni 3+ and run it off the motherboard audio, and to make sure you stay close to your budget you would want to look at the dt990 pro 250 ohm (as the 600 ohm 990 or 600 ohm 880 might be pushing it)
The 58x is a better headphone overall for both gaming and music the shops are ok for gaming and shine at it’s price range but personally would spend more for the 58x. I really don’t like the 9500s for anything outside of gaming
Not a fan of the shp9500 either, imo the main thing going for it is comfort, but I don’t know if I would really recommend it from my experience tbh
I agree. Very comfy but the grainy treble is rough on the edges.
Honestly I think the Audio-Technica AD700x would be a better option for competitive gaming.
If you can bring your budget up a DT880 600 ohm silver pad version with something like the Schiit Magni 3+ or Magni Heresy amplifier if you don’t mind a bit more treble, would be even better. Or if you are very sensitive to treble the Liquid Spark amp is also good.
And it being semi open doesn’t affect it negatively
For the 880? No, it’s just part of the design, doesn’t reduce quality or anything
Nope. In fact, open headphones usually have better soundstage accuracy and imaging performance. I say usually, as there are many exceptions to this.
I’m gonna go with the 880. Thank you all for the help
Awesome! Be sure to get the regular 600 ohm version with silver pads, the black pad version kind of messes with the sound and makes them harsh.
And get one of those amplifiers for them too.
Ok will do
